I have takenn Mirtazapine for years without a problem. On Bupropion and Aripiprazole for three months. One of the two seems to be interferring sexually. I am a bit embarrassed at bringing up the issue to my Psychiatrist, a woman. And still weighing out if the problem is worth the benefits.

Retrograde ejaculation: where the ejaculation is into the bladder instead of the normal way.

Eek!! That doesn't sound like any fun whatsoever.

I think I've heard of that with various psych meds...you may have to do process of elimination to find the culprit.

(For some reason bupropion made me ridiculously horny. I don't know what was up with that. But no ejaculation problems.)

I'm guessing your psychiatrist has heard of this problem before, so it's worth asking even though it's uncomfortable. (I had a "male thing" discussion with my woman psychiatrist once...she was telling me that trazodone is not for men, as you can get an erection that won't go away, and it happened to one of her patients!)

Several medications can cause priprisms. I experienced that from Prazosin. It's painful enough to seek medical attention in way less than 4 hours.
I pretty well expect it is the Aripiprazole. But the benefits in other ways makes me hesitant to change from that.

The Aripiprazole was the problem. It ust takes more time and effort to ejaculate. So, everything is working normally.

I've had this problem since i was 14. Unfortunately its permanent for me (the nerve damage was, and so the problem is)

it does cause a LOT of pain if i'm not careful. There's a simple way to deal with it though.

Just urinate immediately after sex.

It takes up to 15 minutes for the semen to 'harden' in the bladder. if you pee right after sex, it comes out much smoother without any pain at all. I hope that is helpful to someone.

Sorry, I know this is a mens forum so feel free to boo me off the stage......but ferret guy have you had your prostate checked? Sometimes a blockage in the vas deferens or urethra can cause semen to go into the bladder because of resistence in the normal pathways. It may not be a Medication issue. Can you get it checked out by your GP?

Good luck......I hope you get help

I get my prostate checked annually and it is in good shape. No blockage in the vas defrens as I had a vascetomy years ago. The problem traced down to Abilify I take. Three days off that and the problem resolves itself. I was certain a medication was causing the problem

Could be meds, but it sounds more like a physical problem.......I hope you are getting the help you need......it is hard enough dealing with the cognitive issues without having a very painful and uncomfortable physical complaint....

Good luck I hope it gets better and thanks for not telling me to mind my own business with things all men related!!!

Physically, I am in great shape and take no medicationsfor any physical problems.(but 6 for depression and PTSD) My blood pressure is 104/61, pulse 62. I don't even have elevated cholesterol(78 ). At 65ppm , far away from being diabetic. Weight 166 with a 29" waist. Testosterone level 1140 ppm/dl. (at the high side) The problem was clearly medication as this had happened in just the last three months. The Abilify was found to be at fault since I quit having the problem after three days of not taking it. I willl continue to take the Abilfy in spite of this result Psychotropic drugs are notorious for messing up a male's sex operations. Just disconcerning that something permant might have been occurring. That is not the case. Just the medication and of which this side effect was not listed in the PDQ. I get a very thorough exam and blood tests at the VA annually with the print out of the tests.

For males over 40 they should have testestosterone level checked. Supposedly there are 15 million men in the USA running low. About 3 million which know and are being given supplemental testosterone. It is high estrogen levels in men that cause enlarged prostrate and potential for cancer.

I take Buproprion and do find that it causes delayed orgasm. Talk to your Dr. She's heard it all before. I had a female therapist for 3 years and and when she said to me in the first session 'you do maturbate don't you?' I knew I could say anything . . . and did. You're not going to surprise her.
