Serious question.

When I take Adderall I am more interested in other people. I find them interesting. I am interested in being sociable. It feels good. People like me. I can tell. Really.

Now when I don't take Adderall I don't much care for most people. I like some bright and interesting people.

I've long accepted that high IQ people like me and regular people distinctly do not. I never knew that my total lack of interest in people was putting them off. I thought it was normal. I very often resented having to Molly coddle and sweettallk minions into doing their damned jobs.

This is embarrassing to me. Have I been treating people dismissively because I have low dopamine? An understimulated brain? I have always assumed that people who groused that I "felt superior" were just butthurt and projecting their own feelings of inferiority. I didn't feel "superior";. I felt bored and disappointed and resentful.

I've always thought of adderall as a medicine for enhanced cognition. It never occurred to me that dopamine could make social interactions more interesting and therefore more pleasant and also more rewarding. People LIKE me when I'm on Adderall.

Can anyone relate?

Maybe it belongs in the ADD forum but I've always thought of my disinterest in most people as narcissism, and so have they, lol!

Some people get very chatty while abusing ADHD medication. When some people take ADHD drugs it can sometimes be quite obvious they're on them. Normal people turn into a HI HOW ARE YOU? HOW WAS YOUR DAY. YEAH I PLAN TO BE A LAWYER AND MY DREAMS ARE CHANGING THE WORLD. HEY HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT FRACKING? I THINK ITS KILLING OUR PLANET SLOWLY.

I'm this person as well when I take ADHD drugs. It's quite easy to tell if I'm on them. I've seen your original post a hundred times on people.

It's a side effect of the drug if you're not really suppose to be using it.

Cool. So what you're saying is that recreational drug use is making me popular. I love it. No, I 2+2 it.

I love that! (translation for Tea...I <3 that)

I also become incredibly gregarious when I was first given codeine after a surgery.....loved everyone...was talkative and interested and interesting and blah blah for the first half hour and then spent the next hour praying to the porcelain god.

I prefer boredom and keeping my food down. F**k people.

Seriously, folks. Maybe their are others who only seem narcissistic (to lay people, not to docs) because their forebrains are idling.

Sure lol. If you want to see it that way.

People will probably just end up seeing you as a bipolar who flip flops from day to day. Or just a druggie lol. I'd bet the latter over the former.

Come on. I'm being serious. When I'm on Adderall I really care about people. I am interested in their lives and thoughts. I feel engaged with the world on a whole new level.

It has been kind of painful to feel so estranged, like watching others have lunch together and feeling despair because I was alone but couldn't bear their dumb conversation even if they invited me to join them.

And I don't know if I need Adderall because of trauma or understimulation because I'm smart or ADHD or what. What made me like this to cause me such pain?

Yeah...and I'm being serious too. If you're not taking adderall daily people are going to think you're bipolar. And like I said it's pretty easy to tell most times if someone is on ADHD medication and they're not really suppose to be. They sound totally manic.

Sounds like you need a therapist to discuss these problems. Doesn't seem like anything drugs can fix alone.

ADHD is horribly overdiagnosed and prescriptions are too easily given for meds.

You've got a lot of opinions.

I don't seem manic or bipolar on adderall. Like I said, people LIKE me. Off adderall people get butthurt because I seem aloof. I just told you, Adderall alone fixes what I was sure was a personality trait I had to live with.

I hear alcohol makes pretty friendly too.

From someone that's suppose to be smart you're having a hard time understanding why people take drugs.

You weren't diagnosed with NPD just because of your lack of interest in other people.

Trust me

I'm unsure what you're getting at here though. I think you're failing to realize you degrade people, find yourself superior when you're not under the influence and you find them boring. And also feel you should only interact with people that are equally as special as you are. All very narcissistic traits. Yes you might also have ADD, I'm not a psychiatrist. But if a drug makes your life better than so be it. That's what they're for.
