The more you think about it, the worse it gets. It happens to me more than I want to admit.

Ditto here. I find myself doing that with a number of behaviors.

I can definitely relate to this. The more I think about blinking, the more it happens. Likewise, when I think about my breathing and try to make it happen more slowly, the faster it happens. Faylowell is right, the trick is to not think about it so much.

Yeah, if I think about bodily functions too much, I can set myself off into an anxiety attack. I find lately, I've had more of these things happen where I just start thinking of something (not just bodily functions) and then I get myself all worked up, usually over things I can't control. I don't like getting myself all anxious for nothing.

I do that too. And in addition to blinking repeatedly, I also count the number of times I blink and have to keep blinking until I get to a 'safe' number that I like. And then I obsess and start blinking all over again and have to re count. It's sooo annoying, I hate it!! I also often obsess with counting how many times I swallow and breathe in and out... I hate ocd!!

I do this as well. Like Amanda, I count the number of times I blink and have to reach a certain number and then because I have started this cycle of counting the blinks, I have to start over and count the blinks again and again always to that number. It only ends when I finally can force myself to focus on something else and then I can end this cycle. I do the same thing with counting cars, trees and anything else I pass when driving and likewise, I get into the cycle of having to repeat the counting after reaching the ideal number (always four) until I can break the cycle. It is normally not easy to do. I used to count my breathing but I have managed to stop that cycle. OCD is a living nightmare. The only thing I can tell you as to how to control this particular obsessive behavior is when you start blinking repeatedly, try to think about something unrelated that can get your mind off of blinking and allow you to maintain some sanity. I hope you can find some relief.
