I have never actually put this into writing so bare with me

For as long as I can remember, I've had pet peeves like most do. These pet peeves control my entire life. It's what consumes my day, and makes me so angry. An example of one of them would be someone smacking their gum. If this happens around me, I totally lose control inside my head. I imagine harming the person, even. I can't think about anything else while these "pet peeves" are going on. It's gotten to the point where I have hit family members over it, and cried over. I have never questioned this and have lived with it for most of my life. My family knows about it (and think I just need to get over it). But it was not until yesterday when I finally told my friend about this, when she suggested I may have something mentally wrong. Any thoughts?

If it is negatively affecting how you function in life, seeing a therapist wouldn't be a bad idea.

Dear Metallica,, the brain is a strange and awesome organ,, it controls so may functions that we never notice til they go wrong. since you're posting under the OCD thread, i suspect someone has pointed out to you that this seems to be behaviors outside your control. let me just caution you, this condition does not respond well to meds, so be very careful letting people talk you into trying this and that. the one thing that does seem to help, is calming down. i recommend meditation for that. if you would like to try acupuncture, it has also been known to work for some. let me know if you would like to talk about these things, as i am an OCD survivor,,, GUS

It sounds like really intense irritability. I get that way quite often and my dad was the same way. I'm not sure why I get that way but I think it's related to my anxiety/depression or something...Or just generally feeling like you have no control of your surroundings? but with my dad he had an overactive thyroid. After he got meds for it, he got a lot better but was still what one would consider an irritable person but it was under control for the most part.
