Lately I have been thinking a lot about bacteria. Like when I am cooking and I put a fork down on the counter, I wonder what bacteria I will eat when I use the fork.

It hasn't been enough for me to do anything about it, but it is making me uncomfortable in my house because I am really bad about cleaning. My house gets pretty cluttered and unsanitary (even to a non-OCD person's senses). Bacteria never used to bother me until recently when I went on Risperadone to treat obsessive thoughts about self harm.

If my house weren't so overwhelming to clean, I might be spending more time scrubbing it. I feel like I don't want to start a project I can't finish.
I would love a clean house, though.

Anyone have some thoughts on the matter?

I have a fear of germs. If I go to cut something on the counter I wonder if it has germs on it or if something drops in the sink I don't use it until it gets washed. My main problem though is of being around sick people or touching handles, shopping carts, etc. I always bring antibacterial gel with and make sure my whole family uses it. I was on anxiety meds but that didn't help. When you find something that works let me know.
