So the last couple of times I have seen my psychiatrist he has said that my symptoms fit ocd. I have this paranoia that I have talked about in other posts. It mostly involves fear of ghosts and dead people. I am constantly worried that there are demons or evil spirits coming after me, especially at night. Most of the time I know these fears are unreasonable, but at times they are very real.I also hear voices inside my head who sometimes repeat words over and over. Sometimes they tell jokes and other times they can be hostile. From what I have read, the experiences of a "typical" person with ocd is very different from what I have experienced, which makes me wonder if my psyciatrist has the wrong idea. I would really like to know if there is anyone with ocd who has had simular experiences to mine. Or do I belong somewhere else?

Yep, i have heard voices inside my head. Sometimes as i got to sleep i hear my name being shouted in my ear, it alerts me and makes me wake up quickly, but its always as i'm going to sleep. Sometimes as i walk down the street i haer something and it sounds like a voice or a word, but i put it down to the sounds of the outside world.
The most frightening is as i'm almost asleep and then BOOM, my name being shouted in my ear. It does frighten me sometimes. I get the most of the talking in my head when i'm asleep, cause i lucid dream, so i can engage in convo, but if i'm asleep around people they say to me, you having convo's in you're sleep to you're self...weird.

Wow me too. I sometimes hear my name being called over and over again. It happens when I lie down for bed and my thoughts start racing more than they did while I was engaged in something during the day. It is in my head but it is not my voice like my regular thoughts are. I have bipolar and the pdoc at the last hospital I was in suspects OCD because of the obsessive and intrusive nature of my thoughts.

You need to get checked out for schizophrenia or possibly Major Depression with auditory hallucinations (I don't know why there's a relationship but that's a real disorder). Anyway, I have OCD compulsions and Pure O and I don't hear voices, that isn't part of the spectrum. However, I will relate a similar experience that I had to yours. When I was in 12th grade I was under so much stress that my intrusive thoughts became a constant stream when I woke up each morning. I would literally hear my own voice rambling in my head as it does when you are thinking, about 5 - 10 subjects all at once, with each copy of my voice being distinct and having a clear train of thought. It was horrible and would last for about 30 - 40 minutes before I could calm down enough to think and go about getting ready. The thoughts would only subside to about 10% after about an hour and continue like that throughout the day. I failed physics for it (teacher gave me a W though).

Hobly818:

Hypnagogic hallucinations. This is really common, and sometimes a person who has difficulty sleeping, has sleep/wake disturbances or a sleep disorder will have them. Usually it is just whispers, or voices, but it can be much more (spiders, vortices in the ceiling, mimes... don't ask). Don't worry about it, but look it up and you'll feel better. Me, my brother, my grandmother, and my uncle all have this!

You are not crazy.
-----------------------------

The other stuff:

However, OCD can definitely do the voices and annoying thoughts, especially repetitive ones. I was recommended cognitive behavioural therapy when I explained how annoyoing, unstoppable and repetitive and intrusive this stuff can be. I sometimes get a series of notes, meaningless notes, not even a song, over and over and over... I would sit up in bed with my fists against my head saying "stop, stop, stop!!!" Or be forced to think about things I REALLY did not want to think about (bad things happening to me or people I know, or myself doing things I didn't want to do or being afraid I wouldn't be able to NOT do something), or see things I really did not want to see (imagining accidents, or traumatic events), and hit myself in the head or talk out loud trying to stop it, in front of people before realizing where I was I never did go for CBT, but I am medicated for other reasons which kind of cover it, thankfully!

Talk to your pdoc about that stuff for sure!

Oh yeah, here's another interesting one, Sanada:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploding_head_syndrome

This I used to get when I hadn't slept for a couple of days and tried to sleep, but couldn't because my head kept exploding

Sometimes also woken up by someone shouting my name, or by myself calling my dog (who is dead!)

Hello i am Richard 21 years old and the doctor describes me as being Sciaphrenic, Because i described to him what the voice was saying to me a phrase over and over which seemed as though was taking over me, I was doing some bizzare behaviour such as talking to myself in room, making lots of cups of tea and pouring them down the toilet each time. I was giving everyone evil looks but i did not mean it as it was as though something was taking over as if i lost control. The phrases would be at the time saying to me weird things over and over "an erection can occur the smell an erection can occur the smell" as if smells could attract. I also had depression, i have never been right after that. I heard that hearing voices can be the result of stress and depression is this true? I know what you feel like the voices to me can be very irraiting can not go away. Give me a private message if you want.
