I'm annoyed and relieved at the same time. My mum knew, but she didn't tell me! I'm going to the doctors sometime next week, and I suggested to mum that I could ask about hair pulling at the same time...I thought she'd tell me that it's just a bad habit and that I should be able to stop on my own (which is why I've put off telling her I still do it), but it turns out that she actually looked it up online herself, not too long after I started. I'm annoyed because I thought I was the only one who had a problem like this for years, and I didn't need to...but I'm relieved because telling her wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be, and she also agrees that getting therapy might be a good idea. My mum knew, but she didn't tell me! Although I'm still worried about what dad's going to think - he doesn't like therapy because he thinks it stigmatises people, so I'm not sure if he'll want me to go. My mum knew, but she didn't tell me!

That's great My mum knew, but she didn't tell me! I'm glad your mother is open to you going to therapy... she'll be able to back you up if your dad gives you a hard time.

Thanks! I'm glad too - I thought she had the same opinion of therapy as dad. But it turns out one of her friends used to have therapy for OCD...it was't amazingly effective, but apparantly it did help a bit. I hope she will be able to back me up - a while ago she suggested to dad that my sister get therapy for her fear of injections, but that ended up not happening because dad didn't want it to. This is a bit different, though - it's me suggesting I get therapy, not my mum, so maybe it'll be ok.

Plus your trich is causing you more problems than your sister's fear of needles will cause her ... plus like you say you'll be able to put forward your own argument too for therapy... hopefully your dad will listen with your mother on your side.

Way to go ((((((((( rio & mom ))))))))))))

I'd let mom handle dad for now. My mum knew, but she didn't tell me!

Please keep us updated.

Good points, silver_queen, thanks! I think I'm going to wait until after I've been to the doctor before saying anything to dad, though, just in case she decides therapy wouldn't be a good idea for whatever reason.
