So for months now I've had this habit of using my tongue to pop air bubbles underneath my tongue. It drives me nuts when I do it and if I do it too much in a day it makes my stomach hurt. I don't purposely choose to do it and if I consciously try to keep myself from doing it, under my tongue feels like the way your knuckles feel when you need to crack your knuckles.

I currently have a diagnosis of bipolar II, PTSD and PNES (psychogenic seizures). I talked to my therapist about it and she had me take one of those questionaires which showed that its not OCD but I dont know if it maybe has progressed to it or something? I took 2 questionaires online in the past couple days and the score was well into the "OCD likely" range. I also have a habit of picking scabs on my scalp. I have probably 4 open scabs on my scalp right now. I pick them to the point of bleeding and my boyfriend commented the other day that it should have healed by now and he was like "you've had those scabs since we started dating"....

Welcome to Psych Central mypigjava. Sorry for the delay in replying. I am not sure about the answer to your habits.

Here is a post that I answered that was similar.
http://forums.psychcentral.com/ocd-t...illomania.html

Here is what I use when my head gets over crammed with thoughts. Breathe in a natural way. Silently count one on the inhale and 2 on the exhale. 3 on the inhale and 4 on the exhale. Continue up to 10 then go back to 1. This helps me focus on breathing rather than the wall of thoughts.

Other lifestyle changes that help me are doing yoga, exercises, mindfulness, calm music, and being active on Psych Central.

Some people find the forums give them the compassion and empathy they seek. http://forums.psychcentral.com

What you describe as your tongue needing to pop the bubbles sounds exactly like a tic. You could have a disorder similar to Tourette's called Transient Tic Disorder, in which a person has a few tics for a few months, and it might change every so often. I would look into what a true tic is from the perspective of others who have tourette's cause I have Tourette's and what you describe would be a tic. Now about the picking scabs, that could fall under OCD or transient tic disorder too. OCD and tics are very similar in that they overlap. I would research tics.

hi mypigjava
you could talk to your therapist about re-evaluating; however, just because you have chosen a couple repetative self-soothing techniques doesnt necessarily meet the criteria for a diagnosis. welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome
