I'm trying so hard to get rid of them and it's not working. The frustration is fueling my anxiety and making everything worse. I really hate this.

I can relate! It took me many years to realize that trying not to think about something just makes you think about them more. Let the thoughts/obsessions come in. They're uninvited, irritating guests, but they have to leave at some point! The more you resist the compulsions, the obsessions eventually take the hint. Easier said than done, I know, but it's the cornerstone of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for OCD. The anxiety has nowhere to go but down when you don't "serve" your obsessions. Treat them like the worst people imaginable (Hitler, etc.). They don't deserve any respect, because they make your life a living nightmare.
It also helps me when resisting a compulsion, especially "thought" compulsions like checking off mental lists, to focus on relaxing my back muscles as much as possible. You'd be surprised by how taught they are when anxious! So not only does it feel good, but it's a form of biofeedback. Relaxing your body when your mind is racing, helps to bring those thoughts to a halt. Your brain takes the message from your relaxed muscles and goes, "Hey, why aren't you in 'fight or flight' mode? I am! Well, if you don't feel the need to fight or flee, guess I'm over-reacting. I do that. It's my job, sorry." What sort of obsessions do you have if you don't mind sharing? Yes, I take Pristiq. It helps me, but what works for one person might not for another. Have you ever tried medication yourself?

nishan--I take Effexor now but will be transitioning off of it once I increase on Lamictal.
My obsessions mainly are checking, listing, and handwashing. |

I can definitely relate. I will literally tell myself how ridiculous it is, but end up doing it anyway. I try to negotiate with myself, which sometimes works, but not always.

how many time do you check locked doors,how long it take you to lock your room,house and leave ( your alone)

I check 20-30 times and it takes me over an hour.

I hate my obsessions as well. I have so many of them I can't even say how many.
I clean hard surfaces (counters, cabinets etc) 8 + times a day I wash my hands 50+ times a day I do the same thing everyday in order as far as cleaning goes. I use antibacterial wipes in public to open doors or wipe an area if someone touched me. I don't use public restrooms I can only listen to track 8 of a cd I check the clock for 4:44 44 5:55 55 etc. I repeatedly check to make sure doors are locked The list goes on an on and on and I know the obsessions are not practical but I can't stop. I won't stop.

Don't worry about the future or worry but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum, the real troubles in life are things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind of things that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday. Well dx is OCD, MDD generalized anxiety disorder maybe psychosis from a head injury I don't know. |

i know a lock checking OCD case but he cured |
