So I am not familiar with OCD, but I am familliar with intrusive thoughts. I do suffer from pretty bad GAD and anger issues. This question is pertaining to my mother. She has always fixated on people (obsession?). To the point where it almost sounds paranoid. She is constantly fixated on a single issue and will talk about it for long periods at a time. This thoughts tend to turn into questioning (compulsion?). It gets to the point where she gets angry if she doesn't get answers.
So recently there has been a pretty traumatic event in her life that seems to have sent this into overdrive. She has been obsessing about a single person that caused this event and has been asking pretty much the same 3 to 4 questions daily for the past 2.5 years. You can visibly see this is starting to wear her out but she does not stop. She is very insistant she doesn't need help. She has been seeing a psych doctor and will go to great lengths to try and conceal exactly how extreme this has become. We are trying to convince her to go to inpatient treament to get this under control but she is very reluctant. She has also been drinking to numb down the anxiety so that is a double edged sword. There are no hallucinations involved, no mania, no real depression. If anything she has a sharp memory, almost to sharp that it doesnt allow her to forget things. So my questions are as follows: -Does this sound like an extreme form of OCD? -Has anyone gone to inpatient treatment for OCD? -I suggested to her psych doctor to possibly try her on Luvox, he tried Seroquel which didn't do much. Do you think Luvox would be a successful treatment? |
