I don't find that funny but each to their own I guess. OCD can be crippling for some.

This is a new forum kindly set up by DocJohn a few days ago.

I'm so glad you said it's new...I saw it and wondered if it's been here this whole time and I've just glossed over it!! I was worried that I was too self-absorbed to see it!! Whew!

You know, we always jokingly say my oldest is OCD because there are most things that she has to have JUST right, but others not. Used to be she would never NEVER go to bed if her room was not in perfect order, but recently I can't even get to her bed to kiss her goodnight--that is just gone. But she still has to have her silverware lined up and all pictures lined up, etc. Nice to know that this forum was just added. I'm anxious to read others experiences.

e sort, I understand you're viewing it as humor, but until you know what someone else is personally going through, saying "you should lighten up" is very harsh. Just as your opinion is that peg should lighten up, maybe you could consider being more empathetic. We are all here dealing with something and being brutal to each other doesn't help.

How long have you dealt with OCD? Do you consider yourself to be severe?

peg doesn't know what i'm going through either, and what's more does not list OCD among his/her concerns. I do. So it seems to me that i get to make a pretty mild joke about my own issue without being (in effect) called insensitive or (actually) non-empathetic.

and that's the end of it. i'm not going to argue this all day. I've had symptoms of OCD since I was a kid but it got a lot worse in the last 2-3 years. I'm kind of moderate. Only for a short time earlier this year was I really "crippled" i.e. really could not deal with my life, but for much longer than that I felt like a prisoner of myself.

Wasn't trying to argue it, just trying to clear the air. I'm sorry that you've suffered with this. I have never really known that much about it to realize how crippling it really can be.

I'm glad everyone has found this new forum to their liking.

Let's please remember that we all deal with our issues in different ways. There is nothing wrong with how we deal, but we should all be respectful to each other and realize that we're all not the same. I have personally found using humor about my issues helps me tremendously at times. Maybe for others, it's not a help at all and that's ok.

Let's allow the OP their way of dealing and leave out any unsupportive words.

Much respect to all,

sabby

Do you have any idea what it is like to have to open a door 50 times in order to get out of the house???

I'm allowed an opinion and I'm not taking back what I said, it's NOT funny.

I honestly just discovered this forum today...I must be kind of dim.

I'm sad people are getting upset with each other. I often use humour as well to cope with my issues, but that can upset people who don't. I hope everyone PMed each other and made nice...sounds like a simple misunderstanding, and we're all here to help each other.

By the way, I remember lying in my bedroom at 2 in the morning, in tears beacause I couldn't convince myself that my passport was indeed safely inside the envelope I had put it in in my desk drawer. This was after taking it in and out of the thing for hours. Dark days. I'm better now, but it can still be rough.
