For years, my OCD manifested itself as an unshakeable fear that I had AIDS. I was treated with medication and CBT, and was pretty much symptom free for about 10 years. During the past year, however, I have become convinced that (a) the world is going to end soon, and (b) I'm going to go to Hell because there isn't enough time to repent of my sins even though I try to make it to church every Sunday and pray pretty much on a daily basis. My compulsion in all of this seems to be spending hours checking news and religious sites on the Internet. I did some research and couldn't find any instances of people having OCD take this kind of manifestation. Do any of you know whether this is OCD or is it something else?

The religious one sounds like OCD as I have many of the same problems. The one where you are afraid to get AIDS sounds like OCD too. Have you told your therapist about it?

It sounds like it could be ocd, I recommend talking to your doctor or therapist, maybe they can help.

The AIDS thing was definitely OCD. I told my therapist about the world ending/going to Hell thing only reluctantly because it sounds so absurd. My therapist kind of vascillates on whether it's OCD or not and so do I. I just wish there were someone out there having the same type of thoughts as I so I could better gauge whether it's OCD rearing its ugly head again.

I had the aids fear too I've had it since I was about 14 it happened after a sexual assult. I've also had really deap seated fears that the end of the world is soon. When I was about 10 I saw the harvest moon for the first time and hid under my covers because I thought it was the blood moon from the Bible. Even now I check my kids while they are asleep to make sure the have'nt been taken in the Rapture. I did'nt think these things were OCD related but thanks for posting cause now I know how I can treat my fears and that I am not crazy

The aspect of it that indicated to me it was OCD-related is a phrase that goes through my mind when I'm talking to someone about it: When someone says it's ridiculous to think the end of the world is coming, I always say to myself, "I know it's true and nothing you say can make me believe any different."
