Does anyone else ever feel like you're not in your body... but you're there watching as things happen around it?

Hey Jay,

It is called "derealisation". Depersonalisation is also a transient feature of some personality disorders. Have you only felt this since being on the Wellbutrin? Maybe check with your doc on that one.....some meds can have that effect initially, but check anyway, babe......

heres a link for you.....

Hope that helps......

In stillness......

Hi Michah

Hi Jay!!

I feel like this a lot, more so when I am feeling more vulnerable. This definitely sounds like a depersonalization/derealization thing.

Hang in there. It can be really unnerving when it happens. I've found that when this happens to me, if I can remember at the time to do some grounding or mindfulness techniques, this can help me get back into myself.

Hope this little bit helps. Take care!!

Hi Elysium3006

I never knew what it was or what caused it.... but after reading the info given by Michah I really do think it's Depersonalization.

You're right... it really is unnerving, when it happens I feel panic coming on. But I will try what you said.....hope it works.

Thanks for the help, and you take care too.

(((((((((((((((((JayS))))))))))))))))))

I have that happen a lot, espically when I am going through bouts of depression, for me I have a stuffed animal I hold, something to touch, like a textured surface, so I can feel my body and know that I'm inside of it.

Sending many hugs
Sparrow

It happens to me sometimes. Most often I only notice it as something that bothers me is if I'm out somewhere. It makes me feel like I can't communicate, becuase I'm not in my body and it has put me in some uncomfortable positions. I've never been aware of the real name for it, and only mentioned it once or twice to professionals, who don't seem too concerned about it.
Thanks for this!

I often felt like that as a young child..... and it turned out that I was dx with DID later in life and I feel this is where my out of body experience came from.

I have had it happen because of my dissociation problems and also because of the medications I was on. recently my psychiatrist put me on prozac and all I could do was sit there and watch what was going on. I couldnt participate because I felt so separated from my body I couldnt figure out how to make myself do anything but watch. My arms and legs felt so numb and miles away like they werent even attached to me. and looking at objects I could not judge distance. go to pick up a glass for a drink and missed it because through my eyes it was like looking through a tunnel. I ended up being taken to the er because I had cut myself trying to make myself feel and get back into my body. My psychiatrist took me off prozac and things went back to normal with me being inside my body again.
Thanks for this!
