"If we become unaware of those unpleasant symptoms, the "payoff" in being here decreases."

That should read: If we become aware of those unpleasant symptoms, the payoff decreases.

Meaning, so long as we are in denial about the anxiety not completing other tasks causes us, Psych Central provides a safe place to procrastinate. Of course, it's a safe place to learn healthier ways of being with people and coping with our mental illnesses, too. That's where the hard part about finding personal balance comes in.

Like me right now -- gotta get ready to be evaluated giving a lecture presentation. And I gotta skeedaddle and would definitely rather stay here. I shouldn't have even logged on!!!!!!

That sounds a good plan, Kimmy... think I will use that when I go back to school, so I might actually get some work done when I am there, lol.

LMo, try setting a timer for 15 minutes when you come on here. When the timer rings, you have to get back to work - break is over. You can decide how often you get breaks, and what you are going to do with your breaks.

Hi LMo

I didn't really get a chance to know you Need psych. advice for how to "take a break", since I can't seem to manage it! ... but I totally understand how spending too much time online is not healthy and can get out of control.

Last year I used to spend way too much time myself. From morning till way into the early hours of the next morning...yes that bad.

Now just here and there do I come on. I limit myself to spend only a little bit of time.

Once you start getting in the habit and sticking to it...that will be more "the habit".

Too bad you live in oregon...we could go shopping and have a "coffee talk" here Need psych. advice for how to "take a break", since I can't seem to manage it!.

Hope you are doing well.

Take care
*hugs*
Eva
