Hi folks,

I know some folks like online testing and things that can tell you something -- hopefully something new -- about yourself.

We've been talking with the folks over at Mindsite and want to do something with them. They offer an online assessment for mental health issues, much like Sanity Score, but much more thorough, in-depth and complete (but a lot less orangey!).

If you have the time -- it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete it -- please pop on over to:

http://www.mindsite.com/

and click on the "Free start now" button. Do the whole assessment if you can, and let me know what you think about the results you receive at the end of it.

Post your comments and feedback here to this thread, or if you'd rather, you can PM me privately. Anyone who takes this test and leaves feedback here will be entered into a free drawing for a Psych Central t-shirt + bonus pens (yay, the t-shirts finally came in and previous contest winners will get theirs next week!). In order to enter the free drawing, you must post to this thread or send me a PM with your feedback and comments.

You're also welcomed to tell me what you think you might pay -- if anything -- for such an in-depth, online assessment ($10? $20? $50?).

Keep in mind, too, that the assessment may be most appropriate for folks who are relatively new to mental health and seeking out treatment. I think it may hold less value for folks who have been dealing with pretty much the same mental health issues for years.

Thank you!
DocJohn

I took all of the test and found the assessment to be right on target..... I was dx with four disorders that I already knew I had (dealing with) and that I have listed on my profile here at PC.

I personally found the test to be good for new mental health patients trying to find out what might be wrong with them.

Not for sure that I would pay for the assessments as there are many test of their kind already on the internet that are free.

As someone who has not been in therapy and is recently beginning to try to figure out my issues, I found the test valuable. It was very comprehensive.

Kept stopping on me. Tried several times and then gave up. sorry.

I would add that I wouldn't pay for an online service. I take these assessments with a grain of salt. I would only trust an evaluation by an experienced professional, in person, and after many sessions.

Hi there,

That was definitely the most in-depth online assessment I've ever taken. Took me over an hour, though, but I did the whole assessment with many unexpected yes answers. Unfortunately...I had to pause and think a lot.

It's confirmed several things, but it has also given me different ways to think about my "issues". I will PM you or post with a more detailed feedback after I read their Personalized Diagnostic Report. Thanks for the test DocJohn.

I havn't taken it yet, (but I really want to!) but before I even begin I feel that I, nor anybody else should have to pay for the online service. If it's such a wonderful tool, then everybody should be able to use it to help benefit from it's knowledge without having to worry about paying for it. They could always go the route of most websites and use advertisements and ask for donations if they want money.

That's my 2 cents at least.
Thanks for this!

Thank you Kaika, I very much agree.

I was going to say something like that but forgot.

The assessment confirmed what I suspected: intelligent young people are often diagnosed with ADHD nowdays. I also suspect this is still due to teachers being ill-equipped to handle special students.

I sent it to all my relatives, and to all those who have given me flak over the years.

sorry for the confusion Manda, but you do not have to pay for mindsite, it's just that one of DocJohn's questions was "What would you pay, if anything for this analysis?"

I think my assessment was right on target and it was easy to complete which was nice. If I wasn't already in treatment and was aware of these concerns I would be willing to pay a small fee of ten dollars or less for the information.

I took it and had 13 negatives that were right on target. It covered a lot and made me relook at a couple of things in my life.

Not sure about how much to pay, but I would because of everything it encompassed.

Thanks, DocJohn.

I took the assessment. Very interesting.

2 Positive and 22 negative.

I was surprised to discover that I was found positive on Conduct disorder (misbehavior as a rebellious teen), and negative on the Stimulant dependance (as I was severely addicted to Meth for much of my younger adulthood (proud to say been clean for many years since, though).

My other positive was Major depression, which comes to no surprise, although I have not yet sought professional help for it, (will do once after my move).

I think this test was, for the most part, quite accurate. Sending it to family members who I feel should take a look-see.

Thanks for this, Doc.

things I tested positive for the first time around:

OCD (funny, this is what I originally came on PC for)
Specific Phobia

What was soooo frustrating about the exams was that most of the crap I have issues with I tested negative for were because they did not occur for X amount of time or like for panic disorder I did have at least 4 "out of the blue" because I answered "I don't know" to the question because I don't take count but I'm pretty sure it's more then 4, and negative for PTSD because I don't re-expirience things. It's really annoying when there are cut offs like that. grrr. it's like the story of my life when it comes to diagnoses, I could say yes to everything else but then one little thing is missing and it goes out the window

So yeah, unlike most people I didn't like the test or maybe I'm more ticked off because I was already anxious to begin with and it's noisy here and should try to take it again later.
Thanks for this!

Hi,
I went through it and thought it was accurate, but did not find it helpful. I've been doing this for a while so I know what my problems are so I didn't get any new information. I found their analysis very simplistic for being that they say you get such a long assessment. At the end it is just a list of what you answered positive and what you answered negative. The questions just seemed to be listed criteria pretty much exactly from the DSM IV. Given that they said you would get a thorough evaluation I was disappointed in the output. After doing it I would have been very disappointed had I paid anything for it.

re-took the test, and tested positive for:

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (I took into account childhood anxiety as well, which never seemed to cease.)
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (surprise surprise.)
Panic Disorder (took into account what I said in my previous post and tried to estimate the number instead of saying I don't know)
PTSD (Well now, looks like second time's the charm, maybe I clicked the wrong button or something about the memories and so it decided to question me further)
Social phobia (Well, it's way more accurate then agoraphobia)
Specific Phobia (surprise surprise)

Things that I tested positive for that I think are crap:

Oppositional defiant disorder (looks like I took my teenage arguments too seriously when I inputted it into the test because I don't really have issues with authority. Just a very moody and "opinionated" teenager lol)
Agoraphobia (I think I clicked the wrong button on "because it feels difficult to escape, because I'm not afraid of that )

So, it's somewhere between this test and the last test I think. I get the feeling either this test is really bad or I just can't accurately put into a test my data without overestimating things or underestimating them...

but then again, online tests like this could just be crap anyways.
Thanks for this!

Interesting, it eliminated my PTSD because I didn't try to avoide thinking about what happened......when the reason I didn't was because I felt I had to remember the details for the police incase they were able to prosicute the person & didn't want her to get away with anything because I couldn't remember.....that just wasn't going to happen. Doesn't seem like a very good evaluation when one thing kicks out a DX...when my PDOC & psychologist have all DX'ed it.

I have no idea what the dysthymic disorder is....don't know where that came from either.....nothing I have ever heard associated with me before......from the description, it sounds like it might just get thrown in as a side effect of some of the other tests......so that doesn't leave me feeling that it's accurate either.

At least the Anxiety & depression.....was correct

Know I wouldn't pay for something like this....definitely would want a professional DX as this did not give me a warm good feeling about it's accuracy.

Debbie

I actually thought it was pretty comprehensive and would pay 10-20 dollars for it, if I wasn't already going to a therapist and already had an understanding of what was going on for me. I did, however, space out a lot while taking it (not sure if it was because it was long or just my state of mind atm) and so I don't know how accurate it would be for me due to the dissociation.

I thought it was interesting though. Thanks for letting us try it out DocJohn.

Just took the test and test positive for: Agoraphobia (I was a little surprised at this, but it said since I don't like being in crowds... I apparently have it)
Dysthymic Disorder,
Generalized Anxiety Disorder,
Major Depression,
Panic Disorder,
Specific Phobia (as strange as this may sound, mine was "weather events" - thunder storms terrify me!!!)

What I want to know is... aren't Dysthymic Disorder and Major Depression the same thing???
