Hi Fayerody!
I've had precisely the same feeling when considering posting on a topic (in particular, an illness) about which I know very little or nothing at all. I took a while to post to Alex K simply because I knew so little about her condition and didn't quite grasp it. Finally, I simply asked her about it, and this broke the ice. She's since become one of my favorite people on the site, but I confess I do feel a bit vulnerable when I don't know the person (but would like to) and find her academic papers on her condition over my head on occasion. I guess the best advice I can offer is to just ask. Might even learn something! (I did some thoughts about Psych Central~~~~~~~~~!) Ta. Cheshire Cat

I'm not a very frequent poster here. That day I happened to visit and I found the joke mostly funny and a little puzzling. I was the first to say something critical. Some told me to leave, another called me a name. As a new person I understood that I offended some. You don't go into a room of strangers screaming complaints about the hor'dourves. I probably wouldn't have created such a stir if I hadn't been so sarcastic. I'm sure differing opinions are tolerated here if people are civil about their points of view. So as the new guy keeping kind of quiet since the whole affair, I apologise for jumping to conclusions. BTW, the little hot dogs on toothpicks are great. some thoughts about Psych Central~~~~~~~~~ Topher

Hey zen,
That stick in the ear is usually stuck up someplace else. A toothpick wouldn't hurt as much.

okay, my thoughts about PsychCentral? I think you get out of it what you put into it. cryptic enough? It can be a place of great growth and learning, a place of bitter disappointment, a place of shared understanding, catching my drift? It can be whatever it is you bring to it and whatever it is you take from it. For me, for now, it works.

my thoughts about Topher? my mother said if you can't say something nice to keep your mouth shut.

Self depreciation can be confusing. For that and other reasons I'm always removing splinters. We should always listen to our mothers.

I like this site mainly because it doesn't put up with personal attacks... the fact that it also doesn't "handle" them well is another matter.

Toph, I agree that you have a right to your opinion, if properly spoken especially. However I failed to find the post where someone called you a name. (which would also be considered a personal attack.) All in all, it's unfortunate you feel that way.

I have a very good pair of tweezers as I too find myself with a fair amount of splinters. (whoda thought I could fit my foot in my mouth along with that toothpick?! some thoughts about Psych Central~~~~~~~~~ )

We're all works in progress and being able to find others similar along the way makes the journey a bit easier......for me anyway. Glad yer on this path now as well as the rest here! Sharing the journey is less lonely and helps show us foot in mouth disease is more prevalent than previously thought!

I feel better being amongst folks who can understand the ups and downs of the disease in addition to the ups and downs of the medications. As loopy as I am I leave here feeling a bit more connected and a bit less self loathing of my plight after communing with these folks.

I can't find the thread anywhere. It was no big deal, _Sky. It's common for groups to rally in defense of a perceived attack. Others in the group supported my desenting viewpoint. When the dust settled, there were no casualties. Barely a scratch. I appreciated John's comments on the whole matter.
