Yes, racing thoughts are often connected to anxiety.
There are many ways to help anxiety. You can do deep relaxation. You can buy a CD to talk you through the muscle relaxation technique. The body and brain are connected so in spending time on relaxation this will help the panicky thoughts. You can also work on your breathing, so often we are hyperventilating without even realizing it. Place your hand on your stomach and breathe steadily in 1-2, out 1-2, for at least ten minutes. You will be amazed how quickly this can calm things down. Another way, specifically for racing thoughts, is to imagine the thoughts are on a conveyer belt, and just let those thoughts drop off the conveyer belt. This way, means you can deal with each thought one at a time. There are other mindfulness techniques that you can learn to help with this. Please check it out with your own therapist. Hugs ![]()

I usually concentrate on one particularly difficult thing...like I will lie down and try to only think in French. Or I will do a really complicated math problem in my head, or count by 7's as far as I can go. Something that takes a ton of concentration and it sometimes works. Either that or I repeat a certain song or phrase over and over again (I realize this is ocd, but its better than zooming from one thought to another for me sometimes.)
Hope you feel better soon. |

You may be able to find "guided meditations" or relaxation exercises online for free. They are audio files of someone, with or without soft music, instructing you through the meditation. This is the type that works best for me. Many times the "instructions" are to think of one thing or to allow thoughts to flow through your mind without "attaching" to them. I understand this can be hard to do. One of the reasons I like the guided meditations is that it gives me a calm and soothing voice to concentrate on, which is giving me instructions on what to concentrate on, taking my mind off of whatever racing thoughts I am having. I hope that helps! ![]()

wow... that would be pretty hard... When I have racing thoughts, I call it A Hamster in my head. Picture a hamster on the hamster wheel. then imagine stopping the wheel first. Then pick up the hamster from the wheel and send him for a vacation. (picture your hamster in Hawaii or something) it sounds quite silly but it works for me (Sometimes...) Good luck |
