No, I don't think it's morbid especially since you wanted to be a forensic psychologist. I think the more we understand this group of people, the earlier we can intervene and help them. It's an interesting topic. I saw a special on serial killers and they said some serial killers have had brain scans(did one on Charles Manson) that showed the section in the brain normally responsible for empathy is smaller. This is a scary thought because it leaves little hope for rehabilitation or remorse. I don't think it's morbid as long as you don't have thought yourself like you said. What about funeral directors or coroners - I don't think they're morbid.

![]() I don't think it's weird or morbid to wonder why people do such horrible things. As long as you are not obsessed with it , I think we would all like to know why this happens. ![]()

Thunderbear.....You are not morbid at all. It takes a brave soul to want to study the sick pathology of psychopaths and sociopaths. Not everyone has that kind of bravery and for those that don't....it seems grotesque and crazy.
It's so cool to know that you have this desire/goal. Someone has to do it. Just to let you know...I too love to study about serial killers, and psychopaths. I too have thought seriously about studying Psychology and specializing in forensics and profiling. I think what scares people the most about stuff like this is the fact that, in order to profile, you must be able to step outside the box and think like a psychopath...you must be able to view the world through their eyes and their histories. It is possible to do this and NOT be one at the same time...but I think that scares people about this field. If this is a desire and talent that you have, go for it!! As with anything though....it's about moderation. In order to do this type of work and keep yourself healthy you have to have strong healthy coping skills, and you have to be able to let go of it all and allow yourself to be yourself...and not get locked in someone else's mind. ![]()

I have always been interested in things like this. What drives a person to do what they do......I do not believe that it is morbid or sick at all. If it weren't for people like us, then there would be no profilers or forensic psychologists
![]() I see this as no worse than someone wanting to know how an engine works......what makes it run.......it's along the same line of thinking. Just like anyone interested in intricate clock works and such. Different strokes for different folks ![]() |

I was the charge nurse on the Forensics Unit for several years before I went on disability. If it weren't for people like us who have a genuine interest in this, there would be no studies/testing that would help us understand their actions and design and implement treatment protocols. Don't let anyone discourage you from following your dream... In Peace
