I am thinking about applying to SSI. I am tired to trying to find a job and not having very much luck. Past jobs I have had mental health issues and last job just didn't do too well.
Anyway, my dx is Schizoaffective Bipolar Type and OCD. On meds, most of my symptoms are gone except for emotional problems and social skills problems (OCD not being treated, but it's not really that bad). I don't know if I qualify for SSI. I already qualify for Vocational Rehab (considered disabled enough for that) and possibly state disability (I have started to file). Without meds, I can't even think straight, totally psychotic, mood swings, sensory overload, panic attacks, etc... if the meds didn't work, I would be severely disabled. I don't know if my doctors would support me. They see me as a smart and pretty normal person on meds. I was just wondering if there were similar cases out there, and if they were successful in getting SSI. I did get SSI (I think it was, it was from Social Security) when I was a kid for ADHD and severe emotional impairment. They cut it off when I turned 18.

Hi (((Birdcrazy)))
I think you should apply. It never hurts to try. I am on SSDI, I have been since I was 19 and now 30. I applied for both social security and social security disability. I was approved for both, but only received 1 payment of SSI. It is so complicated, but your doctors should back you up and help you in this process. Good luck to you, and keep us posted. Jen

yes, give it a shot. i was just approved (got my letter just friday in fact).
![]() i haven't worked in a year because no one will hire me. i can only attribute this to the current climate of the job market & the fact that i have flaked on nearly every job i've had in the last couple of years by just not showing up, which were all due to problems with depression & anxiety. i lost my last job after being hospitalized for being suicidal, & the people who told me they would call in for me did not. by the time i found out i had been fired & when i got out i didn't care to go explain the situation to them. that was last november & since then i have also been in residential treatment twice because i would not go back to the hospital. the pdoc suggested applying to me the 2nd time in the RT so they could work on getting me stabalized without me having the extra stress of worrying about a job (not only finding one, but also being able to keep it once i did). work & related issues is one of the most stressful areas of our lives. i hope you get something good very soon! you deserve it. ![]()
