I really enjoy getting my hair cut and colored every three months.
But I feel very uncomfortable and cannot relax when the hairstylist is cutting my hair or coloring it. I become all tense inside. I can't even smile. I was abused as a child and young adult...could this have something to do with it? I just feel uncomfortable having someone so close to my head for the length of time it takes to have your hair cut, colored, and washed. ![]()

Zen
![]() It happens to me all the time and I only get a five minute buzz cut once a month . I take lorazepam before I have to go in. The child abuse may have something to do with it for sure. Try and relax. ![]() ![]() |

Hey Zen! Yeah I get the same way. It's almost like I can't breathe enough. And to have them standing that close

How about taking an I Pod or Personal Cd Player with you ? It may give you something else to concentrate on ....

I remember posting once about the anxiety I feel when going to the hairdresser. It has gotten better over time but I do know where you are coming from. It isn't easy having strangers touch you.

I agree, that is tough. I'm proud of you for being able to do it so consistently though! I'm such a chicken, I cannot get myself to go to a salon. I haven't gotten my hair cut professionally for at least 5 years now...thankfully my husband can cut a somewhat straight line!
Seriously though, I'm impressed you have such courage to be able to go in the first place. Good for you...now maybe try the ipod idea. That would help distract you from what's going on around your head. ![]() |

I went today and she did a great job on my hair. Yet I find it an ordeal...can't wait to get out of there. Don't like the atmosphere in those places either.

Reminds me of getting a haircut in Vietnam years ago. The barber with a straightedge to my neck asked me if I would get him cigarettes. Hmmmmm.

I was that way - But of they DO move into my safe zone 3ft...then I've learned to skout the other way... they kind'a get the point I hope.
But for me.........I no longer let anyone touch me in any manner without permission.............THAT was a tremendous accomplisment... First time I spoke up, some guy came up went to move my tank top so he could see the rest of my tattoos (which are of course for me - no one else. I turned and firming (hey, reallying surprising myself) said "Don't Ever Touch Me Without Permission" I accomplished something at the very moment because I never had the problem again. A great thing to remember when a store, waiting in line, and people start getting up one you - put your hands on your hips, for real. It works. I promise. They no longer can come into your safety zone about 2 feet worth. |
