This is just something I needed read right now.
Trigger added because it is a difficult thing to experience whehter you are th parent or the child. Or you were the child that became the parent of a child just like yourself. Tough love IS tough. Anyway, it helped me to read it now while my child is struggling to do what he knows he needs to do to be independent, and while I am rooting for him to make and enjoy the triumph and rewards and freedoms that come with that. http://www.tellinitlikeitis.net/2010...the-house.html |

That was a good read! Brought up some stuff I wanted to share but it got kind of long and I didn't want to highjack your thread. So I'm gonna make a spin off thread from this to share.
Hope you don't mind. ![]()

Reminds me of high school graduation. My present was a suitcase. It was not packed, but I truly was expected to use it anon. Even so, more than once I was back until I was able to move on.

Yeah - I remember the talk. When I was in my last year of highschool, my Dad took me out for dinner and explained that once I was done highschool, I was out of the house & into my own place. He said that as long as I was in university he'd help out financially, which he did generously and to the best of his ability. But as soon as I was out of school, it was understood that I'd get a job, any job, and start supporting myself. So I did. It was the middle of a recession when I graduated, but I knew I didn't have any other option so I found a really crappy contract job and stuck with it until I found something better.
