Before posting in the General Forum, please take a moment to look around to see if a post might belong in a more appropriate forum.

It would save Moderators from having to move posts in an attempt to maintain the structure of the forums.

Just a reminder. Posting in the General Forum

Thanks to everyone, in advance, for your cooperation.

Thanks Kimmy.

I know it's hard on a member to have his/her post moved and it's a hard call for a mod sometimes. Moving a thread is made with thought and the best of intentions. I know we can't please everyone all the time, but I hope we can please at least some of the people some of the time. Posting in the General Forum

Jan

Thank you KD for reminding the membership of this. It's always an issue for me, and I know for some others here, also... some members only read a few forums, but rely upon the general forum to provide the most important issues about the site itself, along with posts that are general. When some ppl forget and post fun stuff or disorder stuff NOS (heheheh) here, it makes it harder to discern what is important RIGHT NOW... and for those with less time to spend, or slower reading ability (often caused by a disorder!) then... the membership loses out.

On the other side, I hope members will just consider having a post MOVED as a normal functioning of the site....... but that also every thread that needs to be moved WILL be... and not just a few members the admin think "should know better." If a new member truly doesn't know where to put a thread, fine (IMO) let the Mods help educate them while leaving the first post in general... and have it moved later... or if someone is in a real dilemma and not thinking clearly... also fine with me (and I think most ppl here) let it land in general for the time being! But also, we do rely upon the mods to move threads and keep General clear of the more specific threads. Thanks for doing this!

I hope it's ok I've said this, and not considered an admin issue... imo others need to know that a busy General forum really confuses some members (me included.)

KD,

I know I have that problem too......it seems a problem to me when I have about 5 places where the post can go when I am initially putting my thoughts down.....don't know where to put it when so much seems involved with it.....I am usually in a confused state anyway.

I think what Kimmy is trying to do is make her job and the mods job a lot easier and a whole lot less time consuming for herself and the mods.

Don't know about you, but I find it quite annoying to see so many threads with the little arrow to the left showing that it's been moved. Until you open that thread, you really don't know if it's been deleted or just moved to another category.

IMPO, I see absolutely nothing wrong with the general membership taking a little responsibility for ourselves and our actions. Again, MPO, we expect way too much from admin and the mods.

Hope I didn't offend anyone with my opinion.

{{{{{{{{{Debbie}}}}}}}}}}}} I probably would have started here in General myself with your last thread. Sometimes we have to wait and see what direction a thread will take. You "policed" yourself. Nothing wrong with that! Posting in the General Forum

Yet again, MY PERSONAL OPINION! Posting in the General Forum

I agree... it's important to THINK ...imo that is the main thing... don't just post in general because it's convenient or you want the most exposure you can get for you post... but if everyone of us will think about it first, that will probably help alot with keeping General forum not to "cluttered." imo of course. I have no problem with members posting there with something that is general or really is ? about where to put it! I come here to read other member's posts! I just don't want to miss something that's urgent or special that is in General because others have put so many other non general posts there.. I just give up trying to sort through them all... and I'm sure I miss something. Posting in the General Forum If we all do our best, that will be enough.

Quick question:
If I am feeling better, not suicidal, not fully depressed, maybe getting things together, possibly healing a little more and just wanting to annouce the GOOD that is going on...where would I put that? It would get lost in general, it isn't social, etc...

Just me... But I usually put those things in "Depression"... I guess because I've usually posted about being depressed and that's where people would see those posts about how sad or bad I feel, so those same people would see that I'm feeling better now. That thought extends even if I haven't posted recently about any specific depression.

I guess I consider it a "not depressed" post which goes under the category of depression.

If I had posting in Bipolar I would put that in the Bipolar forum... categorizing it as "not suffering from bipolar symptoms today".

Expanding on that a little (hey you got me thinking about it!!!)

I think it also depends on the "emotion" behind the post. If I'm posting that I'm feeling relief from depression because something good happened it would go in the depression forum. If something good or funny happened that I wanted people to know about I'd post in general.

So I guess that I think "what is the point of my post... to let people know how I'm feeling or to tell them about an event in my life"

Posting in the General Forum Just because your depression has lessened a bit (good to hear btw) doesn't mean you aren't still battling depression.. (that would "just" be the blues if it were so temporary imo) I think I would catch it in depression, and identify with your down posts from earlier, myself. IMO members here are afraid to post when things lighten a bit... maybe afraid that others will forget that they continue to battle issues... we need more posts that things have allowed you to get a breath! Exactly sky... great observation.

It is also a tendency when depressed to dismiss any accomplishments as "insignificant" or "too small in the big picture" and we know that one thing we must do is set easy goals for ourselves and give ourselves great credit not only when those goals are achieved but even when we make small progress toward one ofthose goals.

Posting about those successes, large or small, I think can be a huge way to reinforce those positive thoughts... instead ofburying them because depression says we're "worthless" anyway, this way it is out there in writing and that just reinforces the positive thought. Just like repeating something out loud helps you remember it. For me, doesn't have anything to do with getting replies to that post or to going back and reading it again... just the act of posting it is reinforcement.
