Was doing some research on anger in people with BP last night and got a couple of surprises when I found out anger was not a symptom of BP And went on to describe a disorder I have never heard of before that describes my behavior sometimes when I feel rage. This intermitant explosive disorder discribes me to a t when I am angry AND frustrated. Has anyone else heard of this disorder? Maybe this disorder needs to be brought out into the light and discussed. Has anyone else heard of this disorder? I would cut and paste the symtoms in here, but I am sending this over my cellphone and it does not cut and paste.

Yeah, working on my anger issues and I found this. It helped me more than my anger therapy did. Now to share this with my pdoc at my next appointment.

My 11yr old grandson was dx'ed with IED when he was in the first grade.
![]() This is a wonderful kid who can be laughing and playing one minute, on top of the world and the next moment he is so angry he is throwing furniture, kicking teachers, spitting, screaming at the top of his lungs, swearing (he never swears normally), hitting peers or teachers. It's really scary to see him go into this. He has very little, if any control over it. When it has passed, he has little memory of being in that space and it scares him and he's so sorry that he could actually be this way. When he is there, there is no reasoning with him. He cannot hear anyone except to be nasty and spiteful back to the person talking to him. It breaks my heart! I do hope you can find some answers to your anger issues NF. This sounds like a good start for you! Wishing you well, sabby |

Thanks sabby! As I was reading your post, I was relating to what you wrote. But I have journaled about it and saw a pattern. Usually this happens after I have been pushed to anger, see myself as powerless over the situation and cannot find a solution or I am dealing with an emotional blockhead. This last time it was the blockhead scenario. I am going to have to find a constructive way of dealing with this.

Last year, a Family therapist (for teenager-parent conflict) told me in front of my child, who raised the issue: “It is NOT NORMAL to break things no matter your motifs”. I told her that I was tired and angry after hours of debating on that object in which I was shouted at… (I am lone with my child and it’s embarrassing when neighbours hear and …) But the therapist repeated: “IT IS NOT NORMAL to break things in any situation: that cell was the PROPERTY OF THE CHILD!” It didn’t matter that I never pointed an object to someone to harm. It didn’t matter that I broke a cell after hours and hours of teenager talking back and shouting at me. It didn’t matter that two times when having a cell (the third one was lost by her and I paid $400 for cancelling) my daughter didn’t use the cell to get in touch with me, telling me when is late, or that I couldn’t ever reach her when in emergency… It didn’t matter that my daughter diagnosed ADHD didn’t sleep text-messaging (ADHD requires routinely and properly sleep) or that I saw her in danger on the street totally un-aware of what’s around other than their interest at the moment) walking on the street and crossing it while doing that!
I had moments in life, when in extreme situations conditions, I felt a huge angry; when children, old, more vulnerable people were put in danger by ignorant or “non-professional” professional people! I consider that I still didn’t hurt to harm yet anyone, but maybe I was just lucky to find other solutions each time. You can feel angry inside and do not show it outside or, when you can’t take it anymore, I think it was better to divert it on an object not on a “being” (people or animals and even a plant!) Still, I have broken when angry 3 objects, subjects of many hours/days of conflict, in my life, plus slapped MY child 4-5 times, once, in her life! Do you think that the therapist was meaning that diagnosis for me?

It must be terrible hard for Sabby no matter how much you love your child how full of patience you are. Are pills of any help? What type?

Maybe when dealing with this disorder the most important thing is to focus on safety (have a plan in place before the next episode) and tweek it as needed). I buy really ugly breakables at garage sales and keep them in a box. I go to a quite field and throw and cuss and just have at it. For kids with this disorder it is heartbreaking. There is so much about the human mind that we just don't know about.
