So, I want to know if I am crazy for something I did earlier this week. Would anyone else e-mail their psychiatrist with a question they didn't know how to ask in person? I began questioning his diagnosis of me as I did not show the symptoms as a child and think I should have (I have another post on that in the appropriate forum - Asperger's). I wasn't sure how to bring it up at my last visit, so I didn't. After leaving it was bugging me enough that I wanted an answer. I searched for his email a few months ago when I had another general question and emailed it and he responded back, so I know it is a real email before sending this more specific question (my diagnosis). Now (almost a week later....he took 7 or 8 days to respond last time) I'm worried that maybe I shouldn't have sent the email. Is it crazy to ask your psychiatirst in an email if he diagnosed you correctly and what other diagnosis is possile? What do others think?

I think it depends on the policy of the psychiatrist. Not all mental health professionals are comfortable with us of email (for one, it is not guaranteed to be confidential). Ask your doctor if he/she is comfortable with email as a method of contacting.

Hello, Squirrel1983. I see nothing wrong with what you did. Perhaps your psychiatrist has a different idea, but he did respond to the other one.
Everyone working with the psychiatrist has a duty of confidentiality. Be well. |

So, I just got an email back from my psychiatrist asking me to write down my concerns and we will address them at my next visit. Oh well, it was worth a shot trying to get an answer through email. I'll probably still send the letter (see other post) I wrote though, since I want to give him a heads up on my concerns.
I got a response though. Only took a week. *shrug* Not the response i wanted, but it is a response. ![]() |

Well it is kind of a big topic and would probably be a big discussion..and he's not getting paid to answer email. LOL But at least he knows you have concerns and you'll both be more prepared to talk about it.
