I have a really really bad memory Sometimes when I need to/want to remember something I just black out..and this happens all the time..I see myself as a fairly educated person but at times I can't even remember how to sleep a simple word like 'the' or remember the alphabet..I hate this and it always happens!!! For instance if I'm taking a test and need to remember 1*1 I can't even remember that..I will sit there thinking for about 15min till I can get it and sometimes when I place items somewhere after 2min I can't remember where it is..also when I say something or somebody else tells me something I don't remember it at all.. I try really hard to remember things sometimes I do but most of the time I'm just stuck blank..black in my mind nothing there..sometimes I don't remember the year of my birthday either..I often answer questions with I don't know because I really can't remember..I'm not trying to act dumb..it's just I dunno.. this needs to stop because it really really gets on my nerves..aaah sorry for complaining

Hello, wottesworthgurl. Have you talked to your parents or a doctor about this?

I have an awful memory too sitting here sometimes trying to remember a word makes me so frustrated and I can feel it on the tip of my tongue but it won't make an appearance. Nothing I can do about it though...Mine is to do with epilepsy and depression and at times anxiety...

I agree with Byz seeing the doc and getting some tests done is the ideal thing that way if there is anything that can be corrected, it can be done and got out of the way,

Are you taking any medications currently? I know certain medications can have an impact on memory in different ways.

I thought it might be medication related at first but I've always been this way worse at some times than others and I've found myself the last couple of days zoning out when I don't think I normally do that. My partner commented on it last night; I was surprised because I didn't think I'd zoned out at all. He told me I'd been doing it constantly, some times up to 3 or 4 times an hour or more and at times completely ignoring him when he spoke to me, as if he wasn't there at all...I don't know what this is...

Start to take Omega 3.....it really does help with the memory. There were times when I had problems getting the right word to come out. I started taking the Omega 3 EPA high dose (less dose of the DHA) for my depression. Interesting, I started finding that I wasn't struggling for the right words anymore......then I realized the only difference was that I wa taking the Omega 3.....definitely could see the improvement.

Maybe you could try it & see if it helps like it helped with me.

It can be medication related...some meds are terrible at causing memory lapses. And, if you are NOT taking meds, depression causes bad times with memory.

Once a doctor told me that depression doesn't really cause bad memory so much, it's just that it interferes so much with concentration that what's already in your head gets jumbled and what you are suppposed to listen to and hear never gets in there because your concentration is so bad, it never gets into your brain in the first place. That made so much sense to me because my husband used to get so mad at me because he would have to repeat things to me so many times before I would remember the simplest things. After I explained it to him, it made sense. So he made sure that I repeated it back to him so he knew it had made it into my brain.

With the right meds in the right doses, things are great. Meds make a big difference, both pro and con.

I have to confess, I spent 20 minutes today trying to remember my password to get onto Psych Central. I then had to step away and try again later with no success, third try later on in the day I got it. I know its related to my meds. Its so frustrating. Makes me feel dumb but I know Im far from dumb. Youre not alone!!
