Each month the Charlie Rose show has a program on The Brain, and last evening's was on fear and anxiety and anger. These programs normally rebroadcast the next day on local PBS stations at least in my area. You can usually get videos of the shows a few days after the initial broadcast on this Web site too:
http://www.charlierose.com/ I recommend these programs.

Remember, the programs are usually available via the Internet only a few days after they are broadcast on TV.

This month's Charlie Rose Brain series program will be on tomorrow, June 22 -- though the program is often broadcast on Public TV stations the next day. I think this week's program is on mental illness.

OK, I watched.
Impressions: I was somewhat disappointed in the emphasis of this program: too much biology. I am surprised at what I see as the lack of insight, the lack of connection that these people see between the biology and the psychology, or experience. In particular, the role of "censorship", as Freud emphasized, at least at one point: the blocking in the mind of normal recognition of thoughts and feelings. This easily connects the mood changes observed, and the disturbances of thought. To me it explains a lot about the alteration between manic and depressive states, schizophrenic thought disturbances, dissociation, outright anxiety and the other camouflaging forms which anxiety takes, and of course depression, since the organism/person recognizes that something is terribly wrong. Why don't people see this? ![]()
