I live in kingston which is a small city in ontario and I have been trying to work for two years but I haven't found anything. I have been on many interviews but they all say 'we will call you back' and that means they don't want because they never call back. I am really frustrated and disappointed. Everytime I get an interview I'm like 'geez is this a waste of time too are they going to say we will call you back again'.
I don't know what to do. I wish I had job so I wasn't relying on the government for support so much and so I can feel independant.
Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks.
Lisa

Lisa, what sort of jobs are you looking for? Kingston has some jobs. I'd look ahead insead of for right now, see if I could get a job as a crossing guard, for example: http://www.cityofkingston.ca/cityhal...08-09-2010.asp (I would assume it is mostly for the Fall/Winter when kids are in school?) or I'd enroll in a local or online college for a few courses, get established as a "student" and see about student jobs for next summer?

If you're on ODSP you may be eligible for job training and job search assistance. If you're on ON Works, you may be eligible for second career - and HRDSC office could tell you. You might also want to consider job search skills training, they might be able to help you with interview skills - I know in Toronto a lot of community agencies offer them, I'd suggest trying the Y or again your local HRDSC office. Or if Kingston has a 211 service try calling them.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies,
I think I do need help with the interview part. I seem to get really quiet in interviews and often give yes/no answers which is not what the interviewer wants to here but it's all I can think of at the moment.
If there are any websites that teach interview techniques then please share them with me.
Thanks.

I found this website for preparing for the job interview:
http://jobsearch.about.com/od/interv...rviewquest.htm
I have scripted out my answers, many that I took from the site because they sounded like great answers. I have added my own personal information where appropriate. I feel more confident that I am ready for an interview should I get one again next time.

If everytime you go to an interview and say to yourself geez is this a waste of time to?.....im telling you they can feel your negative vibe....people can subconsciously detect your energy and say to themself, im not sure what it is but i dont feel shes right for the position.....then shrug his shoulders and say NEXT!!!!!

this might be a long short, but check out charity village (look it up - this site is telling me i cant post a link) to see if there are volunteer opportunities near you.

it might feel like a backwards step to work for free, but volunteering can give you job experience, good references, and a sense of purpose. also, once you have spent some time with an organization they may be open to considering you for any jobs that come up.
