I live relatively close to Wash DC, and last night at midnight all gas stations in my town and surrounding area were closed til Tues !!!! Glad we have several vehicles that we had gassed up when they said prices would be going up ! Regular gas was $3.09 here yesterday - no telling what it will be on Tues when they get in new shipment (most had to close anyway cause they were out). And, from the looks of things, its only gonna get worse before it gets better !

Yikes. I do think like you do that its only going to get worse before it gets better. I do hope though that those that need the gas are able to get it.

Our gas stations here in town are up to $3.79 . I love going to the fair several times during the week but this week it just wasnt doable. I dont know how some people do it on low income. I mean I am not rich by any means. But I do have compassion for those who have to work really hard and those who cant work each week to make ends meet. I dont know what businesses expect when they do this. I have a friend who's husband works for a refinery and he said they are just doing this for profit cause they can right now. Its rediculous! GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

All I can say is I'm glad I don't have to drive to work, and there are enough stores in this little town to supply the necessities. I think regular was up to 3.19 yesterday.

I think I'll look into buying a diesel and converting it to run on used cooking oil. yikes - no gas in my town !

OMGosh! Good luck to you and all those of you with dimishing gas supplies. Maybe the prices will go down soon and the shipments will be in by Tues and keep on rolling in to us.

Hugs,

Jan

We aren't supposed to have gas here until Wednesday. Hopefully people have gassed up cars, or no one will be going anywhere for a few days! Our gas prices are up to $3.29 for regular.

That is so rediculous....out here in Calif, the regular gas it still under $3.00...& deisel is around $3.11. But no shortages....it is obvious that it is being done to gouge......not for any other reason. I have been through gas rationing...& knew it wasn't for a real reason either....they always want to get as much as they can & let all us little people pay. The worse thing is that we can't do anything about it cause we are so dependent on our own transportation.

Where are you two located? I'm in WV.
I can walk or ride my bike to work if necessary.
You all do realize the price of everything is going to be affected by this...food, insurance, probably taxes, virtually everything.

High gas prices, shortages, and outages, suck, but I wish prices were higher to wean the US off it's oil addiction and waste, to encourage it to give up it's blind corruptly murderous habits.
I hope that after squandering a generation of energy alternative pioneers, and 30 years, Americans will wake up from their environmental, energy, and collective social irresponsibility delusions, with Katrina's shock therapy. I won't hold my breath but will continue to hope and rabble raise.

Today, regular gas was $3.25 gal.
I wonder how high it will be by Friday. yikes - no gas in my town !
Upside of this, a lot less cars were on the road today, and a lot less road rage followed. yikes - no gas in my town !
Take care now,

In Texas I guess we are lucky so far. 87 octane ranges from 2.79 - 3.09. They expect it to get worse over the next month and then things will even out again, I suppose. I did hear that in Geogia and Mississippi they were price gouging in the neighborhood of 9.00 a gallon. That to me is heartless. To price gouge at this very delicate time is inexcusable.

Hi Down,

Wise words. I remember that you have an interest in ecology. Unfortunately this is a global problem, not just the US.

If you think of all the products that are made from crude oil, including pesticide and fertilisers, and then think that it is a finite and diminishing resource - ouch.

Our children will be living in a different world, it will happen in their lifetimes!

Cheers,M

PS - I know this is not the place to discuss these issues, so I'll leave it there.

My friend said last night that now that gas is over $3, it will never go any lower. He said Bush should have done a price freeze, but then said his dad is making millions now in the oil industry. Don't know if this is true or not, but it's a scary thought eh?

Over here in England, if I've worked it out correctly, the prices are $6 a gallon. It's been expensive for a while, though the prices have always been around double what is charged in the US. Expensive oil prices encourage a person to think more carefully about wasting the oil supply... since it's not an infinite supply. I think many people just take the availability and low price of petrol/gas for granted...
