I don't want to fail to address ***********'s frustration with the mental health system. If you aren't middle class and don't have sufficient insurance, it can be very difficult to get in, and get the help you need. When I was on state assistance, I sometimes had to wait months for an intake appointment.

It's not only mental health these days. For many years we had excellent insurance. It cover 100% and we had no co-pay. A few years ago we had to start paying so much a week, but the coverage was still good. Last year they went to 80/20 after a $500 family co-pay, which would be ok except I cannot figure out their math. We paid the $500 when our plan year started but I keep getting these huge bills!
One son had pink eye (something I was not familiar with at all). He had been sick for days and suddenly puss started seeping from his eyes at 8 pm. I'm not an ER kind of person, but I paniced and took him to the ER. Traditionally our co-pay for non-life threatening ER visits is $50. We got a bill in the mail for $210. His twin also got pink eye but it happened during normal business hours so I was able to take him to the clinic and our portion of that bill was $150. Our insurance insists on physicals for all adults. My college aged daughter went in to get her physical to keep her coverage and that co-pay was $180. I don't know about anyone else, but I cannot afford medical care and we have medical insurance. All my wages last month went to co-pays.
