I think that it is so sad that the government has to do this everytime that our country has a crisis. Before the hurricane gas here was $2.58 now it's all the way up to $3.40. I know that it is more in other places but we all have gone up significantly. I hate it and i think that gas shouldn't be the only thing to go up. I think that cigarettes and alcohol should go up before gas does. I know that 99% of the population uses gas, but there are people out there that can barely afford what they did before this. Oh well this is just my opinion.

Gas is finally coming down in my area, after peaking out at 3.49 a gallon (I drive a Blazer, THAT really hurt the bank account). It was 2.99 last night, so hopefully it will continue to drop. The gov't can blame it on Katrina all they want, but they could have prevented it by breaking into the private stash they have from the Alaska pipeline (and yes, it DOES exist!!!) But, I won't even get started on our gov't right now...not worth the high-blood pressure headache OMG THE PRICES OF GAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The government doesn't set the price of gas, Mobile and Exxon and Texaco and Conoco and BP and Sunoco and all of them do it, and they charge what the market will bear. We live in a capitalist society, if people will pay it, they will charge it, and nothing short of complete social reform will change that....

I agree. The greedy ones are the gas companies who use Katrina to inflate the prices even more (they'll use any excuse). Gas prices have gone up all over North America. Hope they come down soon.

Our gas prices are still nothing compared to other countries. It is frustrating though. Our prices here are up to $3.69 a gallon in Maryland.

Hopefully one positive thing will result . . . people will start buying energy efficient vehicles!

To compare gas mileages of vehicles, visit http://www.fueleconomy.gov/

These megastorms will only continue if we keep polluting the environment.

ok the gas companies only get about 5% of what is sold. the gov't is the one that gives them a price and they of course no one sells anything at cost so go fig.

I saw on the news where some gas station owner put an arm a leg and your first born in place of the prices of gas. I thought it was pretty funny. I'm glad that now I will be getting some help on my gas bill from the people that are paying for me to go to school. They will pay me $5 a day to get back and forth to school. I am hoping that will be enough.

I'm going to do an extra good job of sealing up the doors and window leaks before winter this year. I already have an outrageously high gas heating bill.

We've lost a summer tradition early this year because of the gas prices. The ice cream man stops in front of our house every Wednesday and the kids get cotton candy or a caramel apple. He usually goes until the end of October if the weather holds out. This year he said he has to quit as soon as he gets his supply used up because he can't turn a profit. OMG THE PRICES OF GAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's called perverted,uncaring, complacent, a "blameless" & "shameful" government;
There's much more money in blood & oil....not cigarettes & alcohol...In order for that to work 85% of the country would have to filled with alcoholic, chain-smoking millionaires IMHO....
Peace,(not very proud to be American right now....)
