People surprise you.

i started lithium a couple of weeks ago, most people dont know it but they know i take a load of meds every day / night.

well i just told someone i was drinking and he was surprisingly concerned.

it still amazes me sometimes that people care

Hmm Have you always drank? Or is this something that you picked back up recently? It could be the medicines aren't helping you enough. Can you quit? You know it's in your own best interest to not drink, right?

The vast majority of psychiatric medications warn against drinking while taking them.

Dear Lotus Flames

Alcoholic fermented beverages are going to ferment within your system to create a vile toxin which could not be good for you dear one

I in no way intend to reproach or censure your own choices, but I ask you sincerely to think about the decisions which may cause you serious health issues

Here among friends you are supported and cared for too, but I am so pleased that someone gave you the nice surprise of showing they care outside of this environment

Morgana

I drink on my meds. I've always had a few drinks in the evenings - a few beers, or some wine.
On the meds, I cannot have more than 5 drinks, else I get terribly ill. I guess it could be what Rhiannonsmoon was referring too, but last night after 5 drinks I threw up and felt terrible.
I know I probably shouldn't drink, it's just hard when your other half is with you, and he wants to drink.
I also understand that alcohol is a depressant and will make the symptoms even worse.

On the other hand, I'm glad you have someone in your life that genuinely cares!

Well, I just cannot reach the stage where I fall over anymore. My body no longer tolerates alcohol. Since I started psych meds

Are you Slavic, by any chance?

I come from culture where drinking is a standard... and honestly, I cannot imagine not drinking.

No, def not Slavic. I'm from South Africa - a drink after work, either at the pub, or at home, is very much the norm. And weekends the sky's the limit. (OK, now that makes it sound really bad..lol!)

But yeah, drinking on psych meds is not a good idea. Most package inserts warn against it.
Drink a non-alcoholic cocktail, or any other drink with your friends when you go out to sort of fit in. I know it's not easy.

In some places however it's not that offensive to refuse have a drink with someone.

Honestly, Americans don't know about drinking, they just don't.

i get odd looks when i go out and dont drink. people who know me know it's a choice that's influenced by my illness but other people just think it's odd and i dont feel i should have ot tell them i have mental illnesses.

i still can't get over someone actually caring that i was drinking. he knows me too well i guess and knows i do everything to the extreme

Mood stabilisers have been the worst meds for me to be drinking on... anti-dep's were ok.

Suga, I'm in SA too, surrounded by wine farms. It's tough because most people go wine tasting together. I no longer get invited.
