I got a call last week from the Navy. I applied for a job online and have talked to the guy previously. He called me again last Friday to say that I have the job! I will be--if I do take it--working at a GS-5 level in the hospital pharmacy. Basically, that will be better pay than I am getting now--maybe $5 more per hour, I think. I am waiting for the personnel people to call to schedule me for a physical and urinalysis. I know that my current boss of the past few weeks loves my work. We are doing more hiring because things are so busy and too much work for us. Company benefits are very good. I don't know what to do! My bank account tells me to go with the Navy job--better pay, government benefits, etc. It will be farther away, but still in-state. Housing in that area is much cheaper than where I am now. I am scared about this choice I have! Also, I have been cutting and how the heck am I going to get past the physical with all these slices on me?! I don't know what to do!

No, it's only a civilian job. I wouldn't have to worry about travel.

WOW! That's a tough choice, but given the circumstances you've been in, I'd go with what my head said instead of my heart. I imagine your present job is exciting because it's growing, but what does that do for your financial and emotional security? Sounds like you have a little bit of time to think about it; do so. Tell us what your thinking process is in the next few days, ok? Offered a job w/the Navy

Actually, I don't have that much time to think about it. They want the job to start by October!

Figured it might be about two weeks... Just take a deep breath and relax so you can think more clearly, ok? Personally, I'd go for the $$! Offered a job w/the Navy

try not to cut whilst waiting for the medical, i know it is a big ask, think of what you could lose, but dont try to hide them, if you do it could come back and bite you on the ***, remember this is a government job, so back ground checks with your doc could be compulsary and they will be documented there, honesty is the best policy here, good luck on the medical, i hope you pass with flying colours

(((((((((((((Inky))))))))))))))) big CONGRATS to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's very exciting, and scary. Working for the government is more 'stable' in terms of job security, money and benefits. Go for it - I would, and so would lots of other people (from what I could see on this thread).

Good luck!

Take the government job with the Navy! You can negotiate the "step" rates, that is, GS-5 step 1 through 10. GS payscales Also, a lot of times the job is listed as GS-5/7 or GS-5/7/9 and you can be promoted to the higher grades. Once you are in the government system, you can always transfer to other GS jobs, but you must first get your foot in the door (get hired).

Good luck!
