Today is a "National Day of Prayer" for the Katrina Victims... please remember those in South Florida whose lives were also changed....

Sorry sky no, I consider prayer a very harmful activity, I wish people would plan and be responsible as individuals and communities instead. I did try to consider how such tragic loss could be prevented in the future. It's been said often that there are no natural disasters only human created ones. I think this is the case with the victims of poor design and negligent planning that put so many people in the way of Katrina. Did you think to pray? Did you think to pray?

Erm.... I am sorry you consider prayer to be harmful. Perhaps you have some grand plan for human utopia? Forgive me for being somewhat snarky, but bad things happen, and we all will die someday. You do not know when your time will come. If you did not have something positive to contribute to this thread, why post at all?

Some people take comfort in prayer, as we are all at the mercy of powers beyond our control.

(((((((((sky)))))))))

you are always in my thoughts and prayers, my friend. all the victims of the hurricane (even the ones not directly touched by it) deserve special thoughts and prayers at such a rough time.

I actually thought about that. I mean, the Hurricane was a devistating thing that affected so many and my thoughts, love and prayers do go out to them. But, if someone would dig a little further they would know that Louisiana was given funds to strengthen the levy, over and over again and never chose to use it for that purpose. In addition, They also took a vote about 3 yeara ago to strengthen the levy and they voted against it .

I in no way shape or form blame the victims of this hurricaine, I blame......the local, state and federal governments

Down, you're right about the local governments not being ready. I had heard that the levies weren't up to par, but didn't know the details as JMO posted them! GEEEEEZ! The response time was also very, very bad! Incredible!

The whole thing has made me even more firm in my belief that we should take responsibility for ourselves and be prepared. Given the levies weren't in the proper shape and the hurricane warning would have been enough for me to hi-tail it to higher ground!

So it's only a positive contribution if it fits in with your personal beliefs? I find that interesting. I don't think downsolong said anything offensive or derogatory. He just stated his opinion.

It seems to me that he's probably right in line with the general theme behind the National Day of Prayer - helping your fellow man. Some people pray to do that and some choose other methods. And no matter what way you choose to go about it, I think trying to improve the human condition should be applauded. Maybe we'd be better off focusing on that common goal than on the differences.

i believe that prayer can be a prayer to a person's higher power, or it can be meditation or silent thought. there are many forms of it. this thread nowhere assumes to state what prayer should or shouldn't be.

please let's keep the focus here (which i don't believe is WHAT prayer might be and if it's good or helpful)...i believe the focus should be on the men, women, children, babies, and even animals, who have and are suffering and what we can do...if it consists solely of prayers and thoughts full of peace and healing.

thank you,

kd

Hi,

I mean no offence, but I would like to ask that we please remember that not everyone is a believer in a 'Higher Power,' and try to keep religious topics limited, as stated in the Community Guidelines.

I think I'd more blame the actual state of LA, not so much federal govt., the state itself is to take on the responsiblity, then go onto the federal govt., I know it is one of those "trickle down" things.
I think there is too much of the "blame game" going on, just my personal opinion based on the limited info I have. Sad to say, I do not subscribe to a daily news thing, too conflicting and maybe I risk allowing myself from forming my own soulful opinions or gut feelings.
I prefer to let those know they are in my thoughts. Also, if I did not have some super family responsibilites, I'd be down ther in a heartbeat. All this chatter of "what should of, would of, and could of, is now a waste of energies, useless chatter.
Main point now, is for those that want to waste energies, *****ing, putting things down, govt. state or whatever, should direct their physical and emotional energies to something productive, help those now, the living, the lost and the grieving. Stop all this foolsih govt., political blame game stuff, save it for after those have been saved. It does no one any good at this time of need.
Put all that energy to work, get off your butts and move, instead of all this harshness, controversial bs., it irks me when I hear all the whiners but do not see them physically running out to help, sort of hypocritical?
Okay, I will stop, and we need not get into a snit over this, but take positive action and help in some way or form.
Thanks,

Roe
