I'm watching a show on television called going tribal. It has this guy that goes to other cultures to experience their lives. I love the show because it opens my mind up and lets me see how others outside my area interact. So my dad sat down to eat and I was explaining some of the things about these people to him. He goes "That's sick." With this disgusted look on his face like he is so much better than them. I got mad and start telling him that he shouldn't call someone that for their beliefs and heritage and he goes "It's not like I said our country isn't sick." His ignorance makes me so mad. Just because he doesn't understand it he considers these thing stupid to do. He's just like every other kid at school that calls me psycho behind my back because they don't understand me.

Hi icky,

Sorry to hear this. It is the way that your father is presenting to you that upsets me. It is confrontational and closed.

My father always used the TV to start arguments with me. The TV somehow represents new ideas and change and certain kinds of people like to use it as way to wind up their kids, maybe through fear or whatever. It's a shame.

Cheers, M

*hugs* I know what you mean icky... I was dating a guy who was adopted from South Korea for a while and my parents always would say these awful things about asians, behind his back. I told my parents that it wasn't acceptable and they shouldn't even be thinking that way. They were like well we just won't say those things infront of you, that wasn't my point!!! Anyhow I think it might be the time they grew up in.
