And, no mater how slight that disapointment is later, you are still causing emotional harm in your child for your own enjoyment. IT IS SICK! Might as well molest them. A matter of degree, only.

2.) That it is little more than an engineered excuse for corporations and rich people to get richer. By creating the obligation of the gift exchange.

3.) That it creates greedy little snot nosed pukes who scream: "Me! ME! MEEEE!" for damn near a month straight.

I could go on, but I've made my point. Any one else agree?

I agree exactly with what you have posted here,

One: The fact that Christmas is an expensive marketing tactic that allows for greedy and selfish corporations to steal your money, it is overglamourised and fake not to mention overcommercialised this allows for the true spirit to be lost and an insane rush like headless chickens to the slaughter to see "MUMMY MUMMY" "Let's see how many presents do you buy me MUMMY", Doesn't that sound familiar from your typical BRATTY CHILD.

Presents seem to be the big thing about this dull festive season since when did giving presents be such a big rush that everyone has to flock the shops to see who has the most presents to gain someone's love and affection, screw presents I would rather just spend the day like anyother normal day.

Two: The True Spirit is gone and whoever has the biggest fake present wins the little child's heart, WRONG, noone understands it's about spending time with someone, noone manages to think about the people who are struggling or who are worse off such as me I was in Hospital this time last year in a Long-Stay Mental Health Ward.

Three:The annoying children and parents who areso selfish to not worry about anyone else but themselves when they are doing their pathetic little shopping, "HELLO I'M RIGHT HERE" instead of *^&$%^ cutting me off, "WA****", the fact people lose all their self respect and manners too.

I just reread this thread and noticed a couple of more things:

-There are many people here who dislike the holiday for very important and personal reasons, having to do with loss or painful memories and/or childhood experiences. (My heart goes out to all of you.) Yet I also hear from lots of them that they are learning ways to cope, learning how to make their own memories.
-And then there are many who are basically outraged with the commercialism and whiny kids and overspending etc.. To me, this falls into another category. We cannot change past events and situations, and therefore do need to find ways of dealing with all of that. However, how you perceive the rest of the world now is up to you. You have a choice now- to take it or leave it. Just because you see other people doing things doesn't mean that you need to buy into that, or that everyone does. Ultimately the choice is in your hands. And having a choice is a powerful thing- so unlike the poor health and unhappy circumstances of our past, which are beyond our control.
I am not saying that it is easy. And sometimes we build things up and just add on to them because we get overwhelmed or need to express strong feelings about other things happening in our lives.
I understand why everyone here feels the way they do. It is all very complicated and emotional; all kinds of family and self esteem and interpersonal and difficulty saying no issues come up.
But to the people who are so angry about what they view is All of society's expectations, I'm just saying this: maybe if we worried less about what others think about Christmas, and concentrated on how we feel and/or make the efforts to make it the way we think we should be, it would take some pressure off and you can actually redefine xmas. Accept the fact that you do indeed have some control here, and relish in that.
Thanks for this!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
