Fried computer

Lost my computer thanks to trying to install update on Norton Internet Security ! Am at a neighbors, just to touch base, and let those of you who I E-mail and IM with know that I won't be around much til I get a new puter ! It is being shipped, so it will take a few days.

VA is getting major flooding - we have had no rain in over 2 months, and so far since Thurs we have had over 5 inches and still pouring. We needed rain, just not all at once tho.

Ouch sorry to hear this... but if it's "just" a programming error... why the need for a new one??? I've thought I'd ruined many a computer, but techs always brought it back to life. Good wishes.

I am so sorry for what happened to your computer. I am always so leary about installing updates for anything. Even Windows update freak me out. I would not be able to replace this computer, & would be out of the loop indeed. Sorry about all of your rain. I saw that huge mass of rain on TV . I don't think we will ever see "normal" patterns again regarding the weather. Take good care!

I had the same thing happen, on my campus we have free computer fixes. They came and pretty much had to wipe my entire computer and start from scratch. It sucked so much, because I lost lots of files and programs. Stupid Norton.

Actually the hard drive was gone - no drivers or devices found message - no icons, mouse wouldnt work - and all this info was learned while on phone with tech support to get that NIS downloaded. Learned my lesson - dont download NIS again ! Oh well, live and learn. Lost all of my client notes I was working on Thursday and Friday, for those of you who dont know, I will be officially retired Oct 13, so the latest of my notes are lost, thank goodness all the rest were backed up.

BUT - I didnt have my E-mail address book, or IM screennames backed, so for those of you who can, please send me an E-mail or PM with your E-mail addy and screen name so when my puter gets here, I can put that info in.

Havent read the boards yet, as I am just at neighbors for a short time. Its raining again here , we did go over the 8 in mark as of Sat night. Now more today and tomorrow they say........slosh.

So sorry Parker. May I ask what brand your old computer was? I used to have a compaq that did not take updates well. Did you happen to see any disclaimer before your download? It's like saying "here is the upgarde or update, but lookout.. something might happen to your drivers and such". Boy...what a racket. in any case it bites with respect to your computer. I know that terrible feeling when all goes kaphlooey!! Take care. Hope you are up and running before long.
