How do I talk to someone who is severally dellusional and paranoid and does not believe that anything is wrong. This person has been like this for 5 days now.
I want to say the right thing and have him trust me.
Will telling him the truth help or lead them to mistrust me more?

i struggled with this. My brother went through psychosis. When he was in the hospital I felt it best not to challenge his dellusions; however when he got out and still had them, I didnt know what to do! Honestly, I would be honest with him. For instance, when he said that there was a radio station totally devoted to him, I would say, actually I've never heard that station. I wasnt extremely confrontive, but I wouldn't lie and say I thought those things too if he asked. I'm not sure what the best thing to do besides getting you both help because it is difficult both coping with psychosis yourself and being a friend or family member of someone who is.

Hi Allison, and welcome

Is the person in a safe place? Making sure that both they and you are safe should be the first priority. Other than that, I'm not sure that you will have a whole lot of luck if you're trying to talk them out of their delusions... my opinion is that you should probably enlist a psychologist with experience in psychosis rather than try this yourself.

But, we have a few members here who experience psychosis, so why don't you also post your question in "Schizophrenia and Psychosis" and see if they have any advice for you from their perspective.

I'm sorry about your friend -- it must be stressful for both you and him. talking to someone in psychosis

Be very honest. Don't yell. Be a calm, rational voice. It's okay to disagree with his current thoughts and opinions (or delusions). Try to get him willing to test your suggestions, like getting professional help or taking prescribed medications or getting rest, etc.
