Being that Bipolar is the working diagnosis given to me by my pdoc I was just curious as to how many people besides me have had psychosis.

Hi Psychotic Phil-I have psychosis with my bipolar at times.. Im a Bipolar 1 Rapid Cycler.. Mine is just hearing voices mostly. But one year it got messy since I started pasting magazine clippings all over my house of eyes and hands. Was ultra paranoid. And writing what the voices were telling me on them. I also had projects I made.. cups in aluminum foil with toothpaste faces that I thought were the greatest thing in the world. And I thought the mob was after me too at the time. Needless to say I went to the hospital and was hospitalized for awhile for that episode. I definitely can relate there. Nice to meet ya. Does anyone else have psychosis?

I haven't had any psychotic episodes involving voices speaking to me or experienced being paranoid in the clinical sense. However, during hypomanic episodes what with all the thoughts racing, I have tended to connect up things that probably really were not related. I suppose I would call it suspicious thinking that is not to the level of being psychotic. I have had people close to me who did have psychotic episodes and have worked with people who had psychotic episodes, so I guess I feel like I know the difference.

Hi Psychotic Phil & Everyone!

At Christmas last year, I was dx with Bipolar11.
Yes, when my Hypomania episodes shift upwards to Mania, I have had hallucinations .

I do hear voices regularly: mainly at night when I am alone & the environment is quiet.

What I hear are "conversations" between 2-3+ people: like a running commentary or an FM radio station. Often I can hear clearly what is being said..occasionally I will hear music similar to the music one would hear just before a "commercial break"..or background music .

Each voice is very distinct & clear, so I can identify 2-3 + persons in the chat. There have been days when "the bananas in my fruit bowl" were having a chat...or the chat is between 2 inanimate objects. I did tell my PDoc abt this. Apparently this is "goes with the BiPolar II territory when I am shooting up quickly-or very close to full mania"

This was very distrubibg at first..especially as the voices become louder & clearer. These voices are NOT though speaking TO or with me. It is as though I am a RADIO TRANSMITTER..or an observer to the talk.

However I have experienced talking out loud to myself in public places also.

These inner/outside chats are common to me now, and I have learned to accept and/or ignore them. These chats usually last a few minutes only..then fade away.

These episodes are NOT the same as running thoughts, which tend to repeat over & over or disallow sleep.

Hope my post sheds some light for you...

For those who responded -

Did the psychosis occur during or not during a mood state? My psychosis always occurs without a mood episode. Maybe a different doctor would call me Schizoaffective.
