I joined this group and it was supposed to be for people who were being abused or in a dangerous relationship. Somehow I stuffed up when I was writing a group message and everybody got my name and email address. Made me feel sick. I kept thinking about what would happen if the person I was talking about read that. Made me scared. I was annoyed because I thought that I would be safe talking there. Obviously not. I'm probably just being paranoid but I feel really awful.

So sorry estee... can you ask a moderator or administrator to delete or edit that message? It is scary to have that info out there but if they change it quickly maybe not to many people saw it, and hopefully no one who would take advantage.

Me too. ((((((((((((((((((((estee))))))))))))))))))))))))

That would bother me so much! I hope it can be resolved for you so that you can feel safer there.

I got a new email address and left the group. I might go back in a little while. I should tell the moderator.

That is a scary feeling. I've had my real name posted on a site twice before. It left me feeling angry and sick about it, although I know in both cases it was accidental. Still, privacy is important, and you feel so exposed when something like this happens.

I hope it works out okay for you.

What an upsetting thing! I hope you talk to a mod on that site and have your post deleted or changed. Good for you for getting a new email addy.

Hugs,

Jan

I've almost "signed" my real name a few times. I don't know what I'm afraid will happen with my true identity out there, but I know I value my anonymity online. Well, it's not exactly that I take a new personality online or anything...I just choose to reveal only part of my identity.

JustBen, one thing you might do, here and wherever possible where you don't want your real name and other info posted is, set up an automatic sig. Then, you don't even have to type in your name, it just does it for you.

No it wasn't PC. I am not very trusting of people and sometimes I probably over react but I just get worried about this person finding out that I come here. They were kind of stalking me so I get real paranoid.
Ben, I remember this activity I had to do once where you had a person that you were to send presents or nice letters to for a couple of months. I was supposed to sign it 'from your angel' but I accidently put my real name on it. The person came running up to me and said "I know you're my angel." I was just thinking, "ow did she know?' and then she said that I wrote my name on the card. Was very funny.
