yep - depending on your state, you are legally entitled to a free credit report. Try equifax.com.

I got a free one via Equifax. I do it each year on my birthday. Yes, it's free but even before it was legally required to be free, it was only something like $7.

The ONLY way I know how is to apply for something BIG that you will not get and then you can see your report free when you are turned down

yeah, but Sleeps... I don't know if it's like this in other countries, but here, doing that HURTS your credit score. You don't get dinged at all for checking your own credit, but you do get dinged for a) applying and receiving, or b) applying and being rejected by an actual lender.

Dottie,

LMo is correct. There was once a fee for your credit report but not anymore. Equifax does provide a free copy of your credit report. You can also try Trans Union or Experian also. Those are the three major agencies.

Good luck.

I think you're limited to one per year, though

Yeah, I just had one done. You get the report but not the score, though.
I don't have the link. Really such a thing as a free credit report? I just erased it from my favorites.
You have to be careful not to get sucked into that free month trial of credit monitoring. Don't sign on to that deal 'cause you'll forget to cancel the monitoring and having to pay for it.
There is a way to get it without that b.s. but I forget how I did it.
Anyway, try google and hunt around. Try government sites for credit. They're pretty reliable.

I can't speak for all states, but NJ residents are entitled to free credit reports (I don't know if there's a limit on number per year or anything) as of September. Also, if you try to get a product that requires they do a credit check on you, you also get a copy of that check, at least if you're rejected. I tried to get a Dell PC earlier this year, and was rejected...because I don't have any credit. But it got me a free credit report, anyway. :/

I always save mine to my hard drive, Dottie. I don't like relying on paper copies

I tried to get my free report. I hadn't ever had one done, but from what I read, they are only free in my state if you are denied credit for some reason, so I paid the eight dollars or whatever at equifax.

cms . . . The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) states you get a free report every 12 months if you request for it. See the Federal Trade Commission's facts on how to get your free report: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...reereports.htm

Yes. GO to each of the 3 credit bureaus Trans Union Equifax and .. the other one. YES you may receive a free report from EACH one of them ONE PER YEAR is free. ALSO whenever you are turned down for credit, you may receive another free report from each one of them. Some can be done online and allows viewing it for a month online... and one allows you to print it off (but they will mail them too..) Read the directions, and keeppushing through and do not agree to pay if it is your first reports in a year or you know your hvae entitlted. Federal Law requres they to provide free one a year (each of teh bureaus as they carry different information sometimes..) good luck.
