I'm sitting here amazed at what happened to my father-in-law this weekend.

He just went out and paid cash for a new Toyota Tundra (decked out). He owns his own home, has a hefty balance in his checking out, etc., etc.

Well, he called to get dish satellite for his t.v. and they refused him because he has NO credit...not good, not bad, none.

Someone works hard their entire life and believes paying cash to make his way can't even get the simpler things anymore...

That just stunned me...

I told him to call back and offer to pay a year or two in advance. I won't tell you the words he said to mean "forget them". LOL.

AH yes...as we continue to go into a cashless society, these types of needs (credit) will be more important. If he chooses, he can get a debit/credit card with his bank account... they will take that, and it won't be like a credit card only to your dad... also there is a card he can get based upon his savings account... Obviously your dad deserves credit. I give him credit for making it this far with cash only No Credit

I suggested that to hubby, sky, and he said there's no way that he'll do that...certainly not at this point in his life as well. I had to explain to him the importance of an ATM card and that it won't cost him...

Also, we couldn't get him to get a cell, so we purchased him a pre-paid cell phone and he will use it...updating the mins. every 90 days for $20. LOL.

Stubborn man...

I'm sure he can ...if he wished to not cut off his nose to spite his face... speak with a manager with the dish company... or write the management a letter (he might like that No Credit ) and explain that they can check his payment records with his utilities, etc. RIGHT? I mean, he doesn't draw well water with his own generator, right? lol

Oh, good thought, Sky! Thank you. You know, I had to work a few things when his wife passed away and he was highly appreciative. I don't think he'd mind if I call and ask why a man's assets and history couldn't be used as "credit".

Nice!

Hi (((((((Kimmy))))))))))
He can also establish a good credit quickly by going into his local J. C . Pennies, Target and so on and charge a little item and then send in the payment. One payment and his credit record will say great credit because he paid right off.

I did that with Targer. I took something to the customer service counter and asked to sign up for a credit card so I would be elegible for the 10% discount. I fiiled out the application when it came through a few seconds later as approved I had the woman put the item on the card. then paid her for the the card. Three days later I called Equifax and my credit was asstablished and a great rating. LOL

Hang in there

i like your dad pay for everything in cash, i have no credit rating and i dont want one, i have never had a credit or debit card and to be honest i dont want one,

i think it is appauling that i get charged more per month because i pay cash for my utility bills rather than by direct debit, that to me is just taking the "insert word" and in my opinion it is just another way of getting into debt.
