just a quick update to let you know i have not given up, quite the opposite, i have decided to stick with what i know regarding telling the potential employers what i have been doing with myself for the last 5 years, there is no way around the criminal record thing so i am not going to worry about that anymore, and as for why i left my last job and what have i been doing with myself, i have decided to say i left my job to start my own business which failed to yeald a sufficiant income, so i have decided to come back to work to get enough cash together to start again, it is not a out and out lie, the going back to work to start again is true, and if they check i still have my business name and business account registered as a PLC (public limited company) with Lloyds of london from when i had the letter opening/direct mail business.

i have not had any call backs for a while now, but i am still applying for jobs everyday, with only 7 days left before i move to london time is getting short for me to have a job to walk straight into but my options will increase when i am actually in london to be able to attend face to face interveiws rather than phone or email.

Keep after it Mellors--we're behind you! I know how discouraging it is...I'm in much the same situation myself. I only hope I can muster the same kind of courage and determination you have described over the past couple of weeks that I've been following your story.

I bid you a happy holiday season, and good fortune in the coming year!

Hi (((((mellors)))))

Could you try the excuse most of us women use, & say you have been parenting for 5 years ?

The jail time is harder to explain, but if you could include the entire period in what you are claiming as time you took for full-time parenting, they probably won't ask.
Anyway, a "nervous breakdown" is a meaningless dx, there is no such thing, so you couldn't have had one. ***** or bust time

Zorah good idea. I know that when I applied for jobs when I first moved out here I really didn't want to go into what was really going on so I said that I decided to be a stay at home mom.

Mellors I know that if you put your mind to it you will succeed. It is hard moving and everything. I have done it recently. You have one advantage you already know things about the place and have things waiting at your disposal. Instead of discrediting the jobs that are indoors, pay too little, or that you just think you can't do for long, use them as a way to "get you foot in the door". I mean you can take and have something when you get there and use it until a better one comes along.

Hope you the best and good luck.

hi all just a quick update on what is happening in london, i have been in london for a week now and still no job, i have 2 interviews planned for tommorrow regarding the parking attendant jobs, the agencies are a bust, you have to be security cleared for most of the jobs i want to apply for and there is no chance of me getting that.

the accommadation at my friends house is strained to say the least, the sooner i get out the better, he has had his home phone disconnected so i am unable to access the internet to post my cv, with my forward thinking i sent myself emails with all the documents i needed to apply for jobs online, ie i emailed my cv to myself so i can access it anyware to send to prospective employers, i have spent most of my money in the internet cafes accessing my emails and applying for jobs and i am walking everyware to save the bus fares for when i get an interveiw, it equates to me walking 15-20 miles a day and my legs are killing me, i hope i get one of the jobs i am going for interveiw for tommorrow i really need the cash.

i am working from home at night typing letters for a fee but it is exhausting after walking around london all day, i am working til 2-3am and going out looking for work at 9 am, any way i will keep you all apptraised of what happens

Mellors,

So glad to hear from you. I'll continue praying for the right position for you. It sounds like your friend could use some prayers too. Thanks for letting us know that you got there in one piece.

Your humor is sorely missed.

Hi Mellors,

I know London pretty well, and also some people who have temporarily worked there. I remember that casual work is usually available in office temping or bar work. Bar work is easiest to get as you don't need an agency. Also there is front of house work in theatres and cinemas. You can just go in and ask about these jobs, as you can in hotels.

I think the best bar work is in and around Kensington, as there is a big turnover of young Australians coming and going, and the jobs change hands pretty quickly.

I might be completely off target for you, but it's a thought.

Cheers, M
