That's great mellors, I so hope you get the job! I didn't know you were in London though... I thought you were still in Wales. I'm obviously behind the times lol

things are moving forward now, still no callback for the second interveiw but i have been working on other things that have come to fruition today.

I have secured work at home typing and letter stuffing on a piece rate in my "down time" when i move to london, to get a bit of extra cash to tide me over till I get my first months wage, it is my friends own business, and he owes me a favour or two from when he used to work for me, when he was down and out I had my own business as a direct mail sorter and helped him back onto his feet out sourcing work to him, was time to call in the favour. And it pays cash in hand so I don’t pay tax.

I have also got accommodation guaranteed until the end of February at his house, starting in the new year, so that will give me chance to save for a bond and first months rent, you could say I am a man with a plan, with multiple backup plans to fall back on, I am getting back to my old self, I have to, there is no other way forward for me.

i found the perfect job for me last night and now i have to stew for the entire weekend as the office is not open on a saturday, i am that exited about the job that at 9 am this morning i called them rather than wait for a callback.

it is a temporary contract for 6 months but it pays £18000, and the contract is renewable every 6 months, the burnout rate is high but thats £3000 per month!!! and i am fully qualified for the job, if anything over qualified, this is the same job ( differant company) i had 5 years ago before everything went pearshaped for me but this time i dont have the added pressure of a wife that hates me and the job i do. i really want this job, not just cause it pays good, but i i am good at it and enjoy the work.

thanks dottie,
the reason i like this job so much is i have to multi task and no 2 days are the same so i never get bored, often a comman denominator in me leaving jobs,

i have always worked better when i do not worry about what happened the day before, knowing that today will be totally differant, dont get me wrong there are some bad days then some really bad days, that is why the burnout rate is so high in this job, it doesnt help when you have people screaming abuse down the phone to you for 8-12 hours a day and you have to sit there and be all polite and courtious, but thats the job, i can deal with that, if it gets to much you just put the phone down on them.

a bit of advice for you all out there regarding parking tickets, if you get one and phone up to complain be polite to the poor sap on the other end of the phone, you will be surprised on how much help they will give you, if you scream and shout at them they switch off and you will get noware, also when you call in we make a note on the pc files so if you were horrible to them, or polite, when you come to appeal the ticket, the adjudicator reads the correspondance left by the telephonist if you were abusive you pay the ticket every time, if you were polite you have a better than 50% chance of the ticket being cancled or reduced.

thanks jan, 1 thing that came out of this is i am on there shortlist for when the job is offered again so i might still have a chance at a later date. i am not going to let this little bump stop me on my relentless quest for a job elseware though.

i think the job was taken internally, what i mean is i was told the job was offered and taken on friday, yet the job wasnt posted til friday morning so there is no way the person found the job on friday at 10am the minute it was posted, traveled to the agency had a interview with them and then traveled to the employing company, had a interveiw there and was offered the job the same day to start monday, it doesnt work like that for local authorities, they have to check you out first and to be offered the job the same day "shakes head" probably means he has a relation working in the same office.

I'm sure you're right. Here, many companies are forced to advertise the jobs, but know which employee they want to bump up into that position. You have a good point about a relative, too.

Keep at it. I have faith in you. Your attitude is fantastic.

it looks like i might have to go to london sooner rather than later, i have missed out on a job i could do, like my ideal job, because it is to start straight away, and my accomadation in london doesnt start for 2 more weeks, i cant keep on missing these jobs, so i am going to call my friend tomorrow to see if i can go down there sooner. i am on there shortlist for the next job like this one, but if i am not down there i could lose that one also.

Mellors,

If this is the job with your name on it, you will dazzle them with your brilliance, and charm them with your humor.

Let us know how it goes.

i didnt get the job this time, they were a bit put off with my explanation for not working for the last 5 years methinks, nomatter how much you try to pad it, telling them i had a nervous breakdown is not a very good selling point, i am in a catch 22 situation, if i dont tell them and they find out they can fire me, if i do tell them they wont hire me, any suggestions?

i know not to tell them unless they ask, i cant be sacked from a job for nondisclosure if they dont ask at the initial interveiw, but what am i to say when they ask "what have you been doing for the last 5 years" i cant really say sat at home depressed and suicidal, but i am better now!!!

also i have to try and explain why i spent 17 months in prison, for driving a car into a police van in a attemped suicide attempt, thats going to be fun.

dont get me wrong i am not giving up i just need a bit of guidance on how to proceed, it will take hell of a lot more than this to make me stop, i know there is a way around this, i just dont know exactly what it is and am asking you all for any help you can give me.

Mellors...how about your telling them you took a lengthy hiatus...meaning you went into an early retirement...became bored with retired life...and you are now seeking employment to fill a void in your life? Say you weren't meant to retire so early. ***** or bust time

I will let you know if I can conjure up anything else!

as always, Dottie

Mellors,

Just consider this a practice run. Surely, this group will be able to put all our heads together and come up with some good ideas for you. Right now, here are a few of my thoughts.

Are there any temp jobs you can get? If the demand is high enough they don't care as much about what you have been doing. That way you can get some experience back on your record.

On another track, while I generally believe in very ethical behavior, in this case I might recommend lying about your down time for mental health reasons. Could you have been away caring for a dying aunt?

In America it is very easy to do background checks on people, and find out about jail time. Is that the case in England? Actually, I did these on a freelance basis for awhile.

Just remember you're great. We'll help you get this worked out.

EJ
