I am mid 50s how do they decide what symptoms are most previlent to call me something & try different meds? Is there DNA genetic connections to see abby-normal conditions? now that DNA testing is done easily even to determine parentage or so on, how can I have mine checked?

I need to get be live better, live sainer, stop hoarding; collecting antiques, quality, real, solid, items, scared to do without; break, ruin, moth mold & rust, loose, be stolen; "there's not more where that came from" & wanting to live in false happy memories of goodoledays, even pretending items have sentimental value as gift or etc.

I've taken same anti-depressant for some 15-18 yrs w/ varrying regularity of anti-anxiety also. I am an extrovert who is paranoid; because they reallly are out to get me, bully me away, in corner scared & to quit or transfer whatever. they've convinced everyone I am awful unsafe liar evil theif &so on.

Reputation is so critical no matter who says it can be overcome; when constantly tols someone is a duck even when doesn't seem so or no signs of it; the very 1st time you hear the slightest quack (even after years of doubt & disbelief) everyone shakes their head & says ah ha there by golly I see it now she is a duck afterall just like they say!

I need to stop avoiding labeling & find out & try to trust modern therapy & modern drugs to see if there is a better way to live. Anyone know how I can find out truth not keep guessing switching from depression to anxiety to compulsive to bi-polar to just health problems confusion? thanks

Hello, Dee-Ann. In the United States, authorized mental health professionals use the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders for the classification of mental disorders. ICD-10 Chapter V: Mental and behavioural disorders, part of the International Classification of Diseases produced by the World Health Organization (WHO), is another commonly used guide, more so in Europe and other parts of the world.

You might contact your primary care physician for a referral to a qualified mental health professional for a psychological assessment and a determination if any treatment is indicated.

Good luck.
