Okay, so I'm considering going to the doctor, admitting I've got a problem, etc.

But for British university application, will it affect it? I think I've got to have a health check and a physical as I'm hoping to work in healthcare, and I'm just wondering whether they would view depression or any other mental health difficulties as = instability?

There are so many people in the healthcare industry with mental problems and all kinds of illnesses that I don't think they'll look down upon you. If they do, is there a discimination policy that there is that they can't discriminate against you for this kind of reason?

here in the United States it would not. To find out if it would in your area contact your local chapter of NAMI if you have one. I don't know if they are in other countries or not. If not your local mental health agency can tell you if it would effect it.

Okay... I remember having a similar concern a while back regarding US applications... I would say... Check it out. Do you have to have a health check or not? Are there forms that you need your doctor to fill in regarding the health check? Are they available online? Download them and have a look. What kinds of questions do they ask? If you are concerned... Maybe ring them up (from a payphone) as an 'anonymous query' and ask them.

Because...
Despite the 'political correctness' crap...
It can affect things.
It can indeed.
It can affect scholarships where health insurance is part of that (I know that for a fact - they are verrrrrrrry interested in pre-existings INCLUDING anything that seems indicative of 'mental instability').

I would say...

That you would be okay with seeing a doctor for something like depression...

If you are wanting treatment for a personality disorder, substance abuse etc etc then that is a whole different saga...

Good luck.

Are you sure you need a health check and a physical?

I've only heard of that for health insurance purposes...

(What concerned me was that finalists had to get that done and they would know what was in the report BEFORE making their final decision as to who was going to be awarded a scholarship)

Yeah. I want to work as an Occupational Therapist and for some universities, as part of your offer (when you're told you've got a place but you need to get this grade or whatever), you need to go to a hospital and have a check or something. Here in the UK at least. It's so they can give us various vaccinations, but I'm worried that if I do *anything* re: treatment that they might know about it/find out about it.

But... They don't find out about your state of health untill AFTER the offer has been made...

Which means... They don't factor that in to whether you will receive an offer or not.

Once you have been offered a place...
And it is signed and sealed...

Then done done can't be undone.

At least... Not without getting in major trouble with current legislation regarding discrimination etc etc.

I really think that you will be okay.

Sounds to me like...

They will offer you a place or not on your merits (Good Luck!!!)

And once you have a place....

Then they are concerned to look out for you.
Look out for their 'investment'
Which is kinda nice if you think on it

Will treatment affect university?
