You know when you help people you feel a little drained? Well, I've been doing my share of it lately. Tonight I was put to the test, though. Someone came to me with a really huge problem. I thought I couldn't effectively help them since what they were telling me brought me to tears but I stayed strong and helped them out.

You see this person was hurt in a bad way tonight and I have this thing about helping others. I have to do it! Anyways, I had to put myself on the back burner again. I didn't care this time...it was a really serious situation. I just have to give myself time to recuperate and everything. That's one thing I don't do very often but feel I have to right now.

Oh, I could never be a crisis counselor!!! I'm beat! Well, I'm heading off to bed before I start acting really goofy or something!

I can totally relate to how you feel! I had to talk about this with my T because as I am dealing with depression I also have a lot of friends and acquaintences approach me about various issues, as I am an easy guy to approach, and very trustworthy. I would listen to a friends problem, and reflect about how they must be going through, trying to understand how they were feeling. But everytime I would get more depressed. I realized that I can care about people and listen, and give them a shoulder to cry on, while protecting my own feelings.

I hope that this is something everyone here can learn, too. Especially since we are in an environment where people openly share their situations, which sometimes can be saddening. Although this is a wonderful thing, and should be applauded, we also must think about not dragging ourselves down.

Take Care,
Andy
