I received a call today from a company that has been contracted from insurance companies to collect overpayments that have been made to individual Doctors and hospitals. The position pays over what my asking salary requirments are and also for all the money that I collect in overpayments, I earn .5 % commission on that as well. The position offers medical, dental and vision benefits after 60 days and 401k after 90 days. The company provides a lab top, scanner and printer and will reimburse me 25.00 per month for high speed internet connection at my home so I can upload my reports and findings each day.

All sounds good, doesnt it? A response to my resume

Well, the catch is there is a 4 week training course that I have to attend. 3 Weeks of the course are located in Frankfort, TN. They pay for all of my travel and will even fly me back home on the weekends if I wanted. I am afraid. I have never flown in my life and just thinking about this causes me a tremendous amount of anxiety. A response to my resume

I havent even talked to hubby about this yet. He is out getting a hair cut. I told my mother and she thinks it is a great opportunity and I agree but like I said, I have never been on a plane and have never been away from my family for that long of a period of time.

They didnt even seem to care that I havent been employed for several months now. I dont know what to do. I must be nuts not to be jumping up and down over this.

A response to my resume

Hey Jenn,

Flying is fun!!!! A response to my resume It's the closest thing to being a bird that you can do. Can you think about being away for three weeks like it's a vacation or an adventure?

Only you know your limits. Respect them. I do know that when I forced myself to do things in the past that were past what my anxiety/panic limits were, I had a huge disaster on my hands.

Let me know what you decide.

Love and hugs,

Jan

It is hard to be away from family for that long...I left for 2 weeks a few years ago. But, since they are willing to fly you home on weekends, its really only a week you would go without seeing them.

Flying, I've personally never had a problem with it. I was excited the first time and to a lesser degree everytime I fly anywhere.

The oppourtunity does sound wonderful, in the long run--if you can be gone that long, and conquer your fear of flying--I think you would benefit greatly.

But you know your limits, if this is possible for you to do. Best of luck and keep us updated =)

Oh, Jen, how many times I've pictured being in a situation similar to this! Wanting something within your grasp, yet fears trying to knock you down!

As everyone says, you know your limits with your anxiety and panic. BUT, if you can find any way to face your fears, I say, DO IT! I think it's something you won't regret.

I've never flown, either, and the thought of it terrifies me. But, if I were granted an opportunity at my life's dreams, I'm determined to find a way. I know--easier said than done. And this isn't something that I just "bucked up" and decided. I've had experiences that helped me prepare to be in a position to feel this determined. That doesn't mean that if it really happened, I'd really be able to do it. I just believe that I will.

I know it would be hard to be away from your loved ones all that time. I've never been separated like that, either. Well, my boyfriend goes away around Thanksgiving for about 10 days; I think that's the longest, but I'm home, rather than traveling. Is there someone who can make the trip with you, at least for a few days? If you can't, take some reading material, and have some people to phone or who will phone you.

How much time do you have to decide? How much time before you'd have to fly? There are several books and other things that might be helpful to you. Here are some:

Overcome the Fear of Flying (audio cd)
Flying Without Fear (paperback)
The Fearless Flyer's Handbook (paperback)
Fly Without Fear: Guided Meditations for a Relaxing Flight (audio cd)
Chicken Soup for the Soul Presents Fearless Flightkit (paperback)

For more, just type "fear of flying" into Amazon's search field.

I agree, flying is fun and I enjoy time away from my family. I had never flown before and the first time I did it was with my hubby who has a death fear of flying but he held it together and explained things to me. Really, it is a fine experience. I get car sick, can't go on amusement rides, sea sick, but flying is easy. Take gum and maybe a mild sedative and think of it as a right of passage, as my friend says, cool beans!!!!!!!! Way to go.

Wow! This sounds like a really great opportunity for you! I've never flown, either, and would be quite fearful of even doing anything that required my feet leaving the ground. But can you think of anyone else who would offer such a job offer, and with such great benefits? I'd go for it!

Thank you all for your replies. I have a great fear of flying even though I have never flown. I imagine the worst and the thought of even boarding a plane makes me want to throw up A response to my resume

I think that is only part of the battle for me though. I dont know how I will react back in the work force. I want to work but am afraid that I will fall apart again and not be able to handle the pressure. Even this morning, just talking to the lady on the phone was stressfull.

I worked very hard at my last job and in an instant, I lost it all and my whole life changed. I dont know if I am willing to take that risk. I am a coward, I admit that. I wish I didnt place so much pressure on myself. A response to my resume

Hi Jen,

I just recently posted about coping with a 3d challenge in my life, and now you have one!

Same advice applies IMHO, work within our limits, take on what we feel that we can achieve. If you decide to take it on, that's OK too, and if you decide to let it go, that's OK too.

What matters is you.

Cheers, M

You are NOT a coward! You are aware of your limitations. I have Panic Disorder, but I'm not a coward. I still face every day the best I can. Sometimes I cope well, sometimes I don't cope well, but I still face them. You are the same way, and you are brave and strong. I urge you not to force yourself into something for which you are not ready. I'm here for you.

Hugs,

Jan

Congratulations! You should be so proud of yourself! A few things come to mind... How would you feel if you didn't take advantage of this opportunity? Would you be disappointed, or ok?
Also, if you're scared of flying, maybe look into a bus or train. They're usually cheaper, and the only sacrafice is having to spend more time en route. I enjoy traveling by train.

Otherwise, maybe this is the one time in your life when you're just going to have to face this fear. If you have a T talk to him/her about it?

Good luck!
