Today I had to file a missing persons report on my brother. He has had 2 psychotic breaks in the past. Has been doing well for past 4 year. Guess he started decompensating few weeks ago. He was at work driving in another city, called his boss. Boss new he "wasn't right" and sent a taxi for him to a hotel and got plane ticket home for him. He never got on the plane, he left his stuff, phone, credit cards etc in the room and hasn't been back for 2 days. Called my mom. Told her he would make a call and that would determine which voice he would listen to. Havn't heard from him since. He hears God, angels, and the Devil. The voices tell him to kill himself.
Clearly, he has had another break. And now we wait.....
I hate to say this, but it makes my "mental health issures" seem very stupid, small and insignificant. This truly is the real deal. I hope he is going to be ok. It is very cold where he is at. It appears he has no money on him since he left wallet, credit cards, etc in hotel. And now we wait....
I know there is not much to say. I just wanted to get it out there though. Who are you gonna talk about this stuff with???? So this seemed the best place. Thanks for letting me share.

Thinking about you and the family, and hoping for his safe return. Hang in there.

Thank you Pegasus, Fresia, Caretaker Leo, Open Eyes, and everyone who gave hugs! I appreciate it so much!!! No word yet. Have my cell phone next to me as I am the contact person for the police so if they do find him, one way or other, they will call.
I am just greatful for Psych Central and all you good people here that are living with the things you are, yet still reaching out and helping others. I hope it all comes back to you ten-fold! I am gonna hang close here to for now......

B"H

dearest noneedtoknow,
btw, love your pseudonym. seriously though, your mental health issues do not seem stupid, small, or insignificant", rather you sit in the owner's box at the field of personal mental health issues. you are the equivalent to a person who is a sibling of alcoholism or some other dependency issue, but neither you, nor your brother have dependency issues as he is mentally ill with a very different form of mental illness than dependency illness. you live your life as a hostage to your brother's well being and mental stability. this mut be torture. I have a brother with dependency issues where my brother has accountability to abstain from various behaviors. You are in a situation where you are dealing with the unpredictability of your brother's brain which cannot be surrendered to as opposed to a drug or particular behavior. Granted, your brother may have issues not seeing a doctor or not taking meds...I don't know. It sure sounds like he should have been on medication based on your knowledge of his past problems, etc.

Well, all I really wanted to say you are like anyone else here living with mental illness whether by cause or effect. You are effected by your brother. I hope you feel welcome and safe to share here any time about any thing. I will add your brother and your whole family to my prayer list. I hope you are not waiting long for a call you want to hear. I empathize with the utter helplessness and sadness that may lay in your heart. Please feel free to send me a private message anytime. I am so sorry you have to live this way. it is a long and windy road. I wish you all the Blessings you ask for yourself.

take care and be well,
Sloane

Thank you so much to everyone who has replied/gave hugs.It has been so helpful. Talked to a detective today and as of 1:30 this afternoon, my brother wasn't in a morgue. That might sound morbid, but I was greatful to hear it. They still don't know where he is, but thankfully, he's not there. Will keep you posted. Thank you so much again.

Praying for you! Please make sure we stay updated.

We had a similar instance with my brother in law and some very scary episodes due to his schizophrenia. I understand feeling guilty saying anything about your own problems when someone is experiencing something so terrifying. Don't downplay your own feelings, though. Let us know if we can help in any way. (Other than the obvious prayers)
