I have a long history and have had symptoms of anxiety, depression, racing thoughts, irritability, agitation since 14 or so (I'm 48 now). I've been thru the mill with meds (you name it I've taken it) and ECT (full series) and can not get rid of sensitivity/irritability. It drains my mental/physical energy to the point where I can't think straight, can't hold a conversation, disorganized thoughts, etc. Haven't had one decent relationship in 30 years due to these problems. I've become a recluse and on SSDI last seven years. Dr. has tried all sorts of meds. It can be triggered and it can have no trigger - it just happens and I've never really gotten a break from it for 30 years except for a brief period when I was on paxil (then it sort of wore off or something after 3 years or so). I don't understand why some people don't irritate easily and others do. It has to be something biochemical and I don't get it and I'm never going to get a hold of it. Anyone have these issues?

If paxil worked for you, then it doesn't sound like you're getting the right meds now. If you have anger issues, then there are anger management classes and needing to get to the base of your anger to understand it. Might take a T to get to the anger base with therapy.

I have irritability and agitation too. Never used to ever have it. I have leg twitching and trembling. I consider this irritability, but maybe it's called anxiety. All I know is Ive got it.

hi, cool09 - i have all of the same symptoms and am contemplating filing for SSDI. i also have ptsd. i know there is a kind of catharsis when i get angry and yell. with me, it usually indicates that i am seriously unhappy and/or frustrated. i also had an upbringing by a parent who yelled at her kids daily often over little things. there were financial and several health problems in the family. still, the yelling predates them. i really don't know what to do with my life. i am going to watch this thread for suggestions. i wish you the best with your issues.

Yes, it is highly likely biochemical. If you do not have enough of certain brain chemicals and/or if they do not fire correctly, then it causes these symptoms and disorders. These disorders can be genetic, too. Don't give up hope. You found one medication that worked and you will find another. Perhaps one day you can try Paxil again. It is frustrating when the drug that worked, one day stops working. I've experienced that a couple of times.
