I am depressed, but I don't know how to get un-depressed. I am 16, and about 4-5 months ago I told each of my parents separately that I was depressed, and they said that they would get me counseling or therapy if I wanted and I said ya. After a week of waiting I reminded them, and they said basically the same thing. It has gotten a lot worse since then, and I don't know what to do. I don't have anyone that is close enough to talk about this to, and there is no way I will trust them so they can let me down again. It's like no one cares; I cut my wrists 2 weeks ago and have easily hid the cuts from everyone. Could really use a hug right now

Remind your parents every day, twice a day, or more. Show them the cuts if necessary. You deserve to get the help you need, so don't give up. If your parents still don't do anything about your depression, can you talk to a school counselor or someone at your school you can trust?

You said you have no one in real life to talk to about these things. I know how that feels, it sucks, doesn't it? It's not the same thing as talking to someone in person, but remember the PC community is always here to support you. Visit the Depression forum, you'll be able to find many people in the same boat as you are right now and who knows... some of the topics or their replies may be useful to you too.

Hang in there and keep us posted

*freak* is absolutely right. You need that counselor now, not later.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. Its just I don't think I can. Its hard to explain, but I have had an extremely difficult time doing anything or committing to anything. Whenever I'm feeling particularly down, if I try to do something my mind points out all the reasons why I shouldn't and how I'm overreacting and being selfish, so it's really hard to get anything done.

I agree with freak, if your parents are listening, you need to find a way to make them. Show them the cuts (I know it's scary) and maybe they'll see how real it is. Also go to your schools guidance councilors. This is the sort of stuff they deal with, and don't be ashamed of talking to them. Don't be ashamed of being depressed, you're not the only one, and you won't be the last.

I think I am going to tell them. This is probably the most depressed I've ever been(I've been in my room for the past hour crying for no real reason) but I've realized that I really can't live like this. Wish me luck

Well, right when I was about to tell them(15-30 minutes ago), I found out my dad is addicted to cocaine. Haha, perfect timing right? (It makes sense though; we never have any money, even though we are in the top 1% income group). I didn't say anything. I think I'm going to throw up

Bless your heart Dizzy; I do so hope you can work this so you can get help; and hope your father will too. Sad; I am sorry!
hugs, bj

I'm so sorry to hear that Dizzy...my father was the same way. I know precisely what that is like.

Please try to stay strong. When things settle down a bit, bring it back up with full force. If you can't wait that long, bring it up now. But do what you need to do to get the help you need. Much better now than later, as said.

Please, take care and know I am praying for you.
Thanks for this!
